The same day that happened two scoutmasters in the local branch of the Church I'm a member of - then the largest Boy Scout sponsor on earth - walked in to the Bishop's office and turned in their credentials. Unknown to us at the time, that was happening all over. The Church now sponsors Trail Life.

Where I grew up we had about 12 Troops in town.  All sponsored by local churches.  Almost every Scout Mast was retired service member.  Ours was a Marine Sgt, Korean war vet.   This guy was no nonsense and a great teacher of character.  I still can't tie anything but a granny or square knot but boy do I remember many lessons on primative camping and basic survival.

That still exists at Trail Life (@Bigun provided a link above).  BSA provides God knows what, the good Scoutmasters all fled BSA when they decided homosexuality was OK for Scoutmasters.
