If the air campaign intensifies, maintenance, supply, and support needs intensify, too. That means more people.Otherwise, something gets missed, and our pilots, aircrew, and even our bases and vessels may be put at greater risk.Changing weapons platforms means more people, too. A B-52 requires between 53 and 62 man hours per flight hour, and the B-1 and B-2 require close to 100. The more gee whiz stuff you have, the more systems to maintain. BUFFs are relatively simple bomb trucks compared to the Bone and the Spirit.
Okay ... 50,000 US troops are needed on the ground for systems maintenance, not battle. I know very little about this side of war and can only pray you're right. Thanks @Smokin Joe

Every time they launch one, their position is exposed. Then just carpet bomb the areas.
When I was in Vietnam, almost sixty years ago now, for every point of the spear type (Sneaky Pete) there were at least twenty technical and logistical support people (me) there. That was then. I hate to guess how many it takes now.
Exact breakdowns for "actual combat troops" (often meaning ground combat units like Army/Marine infantry) are not publicly detailed in current reports.
Just start processing all suspected sites with UAV-based precision ground penetrating radar. Almost certainly those little trap spider boxes will have a very distinctive signature on GPR.
