But...
This conflict has the potential to ignite a greater mideast-wide struggle of islam v. The West.
Not just the "iranian brand" of "12th imam" islam, but... everything. Remember... it's not just "radical" muslims who believe what the quran says about non-muslims -- it's what ALL devout muslims believe. Even if only the more fervent among them are motivated to act upon such scripture.
Again and again, I see posts in this thread to wit: "We own the sky" above iran (and iranian targets).
Well, ok.But so long as the imams remain in control on the ground, what have we achieved? As soon as the bombing stops, and they can rebuild, they WILL rebuild.
What did "owning the sky" do for us in Vietnam?
So long as that enrinched uranium remains intact and accessible to them, they'll acquire new equipment and pick up where they left off. They were already in the process of doing that after the 12-day war.
The only way to prevent this is to SEIZE and REMOVE all enriched uranium from iran. How is this going to be done without "boots on the ground"?
Are we going to accept the word of "inspectors" (such as "UN inspectors") who in all likelihood will not be American, and perhaps even be predisposed to sympathize for the iranians (and lie for them as well)?
Recall how fanatical the Japanese were, even after the atomic bombs, some STILL wanted to keep the war going. True, Japan surrendered before Americans set foot on the main islands, but the surrender looked like this:
Nothing less than a full surrender by iran will do.
Who will step from their ranks to appear before the Americans and do this?
I daresay that the imams who run iran are as fanatical -- or MORESO -- than were the Japanese in 1945. What is it really going to take to make them stop believing in THEIR god -- enough so as to sign a surrender to "the great satan"?
When we defeated Germany in 1945, did we let the Nazis remain in power?
Leaving the islamic republic in place in 2026 will constitute EXACTLY THE SAME THING.
I challenge you to educate me as to how it would be otherwise.
