I agree 100%.  And still I think it can be done without killing 27% of capacity of maritime oil.  Try to imagine shutting off the spigot to a quarter of the world.

No.pain, no gain I guess.

The impact of US interceptors on the Iran war |

Defense News Weekly Full Episode 3.17.26
Since the beginning, part of the war in Iran has been a contest of Iranian missiles and drones versus U.S. interceptors. How is the matchup shaking out?

Looks like Fuso or Yamashiro may be the lead ship in that column.

While the "Pagoda" masts look very top-heavy, they were platforms spaced out on tall masts, not solid structures. Fuso and Yamashiro met their fate in the Surigao Strait, courtesy of USN destroyer torpedoes and 16", 14", 8", and 6" shells from USN battleships and cruisers (I think there was an Aussie or Kiwi destroyer and cruiser in that mix, too).

Scorched Earth in the Persian Gulf could trigger a world wide financial crisis, making '08-'09 look like child's play.

That is why Israel needs to contain their trigger finger when venturing out.

Understood, but I also recognize that the war is being fought much closer to their neighborhoods than ours.

USAF "leadership" efforts to kill the Warthog date as far back, in my knowledge, as the late 1970s, decades before whatever "mil bloggers" might have said.

Yes, but oil as a whole is a world wide commodity.  And with supply/demand constraints, a 25%  squeeze on the spigot will throw all oil prices including WTI and Brent through the roof.  Create shortages, factory outages, supply chain disruptions, food production shortages, power restrictions, and on and on..

Grass root oil production takes many months, even longer to be built and come on line.  By then, the overall results might be ugly.

After decades of attacks by Iran - by proxies, and directly - Israel needs Iran's military capabilities to be reduced to Kalashnikovs and Mi-8 helicopters.

A closed Persian Gulf will have more world wide impact (for those of us who remember) than the 1973 Oil Embargo.  Gas lines, rationing, speed limit restrictions, and emergency jump starting of our domestic oil industry after being drunk for decades on cheap Middle East Oil.

Countries like Japan that are already Debt leveraged and rely 90% on this area may see even more disastrous consequences, .... and these things tend to domino.

Let's cool it on bombing of oil and gas fields, and hard infrastructure.

Britain, Euros, Japan Announce ‘Readiness to Contribute to Appropriate Efforts’ in Straits of Hormuz

BREITBART
Oliver JJ Lane
19 Mar 2026

The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan made a call for international law to be observed in the Gulf as they announced joint efforts to reopen the Straits of Hormuz are in the “preparatory planning” stage.

A coalition of Western nations have expressed their “readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait”. While the joint statement from the governments of the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan is couched in the least committal language possible, it is a notable change of direction after a week of the leaders of those same nations rebuffing calls from the United States to rally around the flag and ensure freedom of navigation in one of the world’s most strategic and contested waterways for their own good.

Indeed, the statement follows major criticism of the government and leadership of UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, which President Trump castigated for failing to pursue its own national interest as well as not honouring its allies, while calling him out personally for being indecisive and hidebound. It also lands just as Japan’s Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae meets President Trump for talks in Washington, which were anticipated to be “difficult” for Japan after the country failed to heed Trump’s call for aid.

AI response to "What is the purpose of the A-10 Warthog:
The A-10 Warthog's primary purpose is to provide close air support (CAS) to ground forces by attacking armored vehicles, tanks, and enemy troops. Built for durability, it excels at low-altitude, low-speed combat, using its heavy 30mm GAU-8/A cannon and extensive ordnance load to support troops in contested environments.

Close Air Support (CAS): The A-10 is specialized in supporting friendly ground forces in close proximity to enemy combatants.
Anti-Armor Specialist: It was designed to destroy Soviet-era tanks and armored vehicles during the Cold War, utilizing the 30mm GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling gun.
High Survivability: Known as a "flying tank," the A-10 is armored with a titanium "bathtub" protecting the pilot, self-healing fuel systems, and redundant flight controls, allowing it to take heavy damage and stay airborne.
Extended Combat Loiter: It is designed for long loiter times over the battlefield, allowing pilots to provide immediate, persistent support to ground units.
Versatile Weapon Load: It can carry up to 16,000 pounds of mixed ordnance, including Maverick missiles, laser-guided rockets, and bombs.
Operational Flexibility: The aircraft can take off and land from short, unimproved, or austere airfields close to the front lines.

Sounds to me that it is doing EXACTLY what it was designed to do.

With a little help from their friends
The Iranian people are helping to create the conditions necessary to support their liberation from the vile mullahcracy. The Wall Street Journal reports today in a page-one story:

Ali Larijani, Iran’s top security official, strolled confidently in dark sunglasses and a black coat Friday through a rally of regime loyalists in central Tehran. It was his first public appearance in a war in which he was a known target. “Brave people. Brave officials. Brave leaders. This combination cannot be defeated,” he wrote later on X.

Four days later, he was dead. Early Tuesday morning, Israel’s intelligence services found Larijani gathered with other officials at a hideout on the outskirts of Tehran and killed him with a missile strike.

That same night, Israel got a tip from ordinary Iranians that the leader of the feared Basij militia, Gholamreza Soleimani, was holing up with his deputies in a tent in a wooded area in Tehran....

From reply 2366 above:
"Donald Trump: No American Ground Troops Going into Iran"

I'm sorry to tell you this, Mr. Trump, but you're gonna end up eating those words.

Ending this war favorably is going to require ground troops, and A LOT of them.

Otherwise, hostilities may "end", but it probably won't be with the results you want.

Saleh Mohammadi, a 19-year-old national wrestling champion and bronze medalist at the 2024 Saitiev International Cup in Russia, was publicly executed in Qom, Iran, on March 19, 2026, alongside two other men, Mehdi Ghasemi and Saeed Davoudi. Iranian authorities accused Mohammadi of waging war against God (moharebeh) and involvement in the killing of 2 police officers during protests in January 2026.

His execution followed a trial widely condemned by human rights groups as a sham, with claims that his confession was obtained under torture and coercion. Independent sources, including Iran Human Rights and Amnesty International, reported that Mohammadi denied the charges, had no access to his chosen lawyer, and was denied the right to appeal.

The case has drawn international outrage, with calls from athletes, activists, and governments - including the U.S. - for Iran to be banned from international sports competitions. The execution marks the first official death penalty linked to the 2026 protests and raises fears of a broader crackdown on dissent.

Netanyahu Confirms ‘Israel Acted Alone’ in Attack on Iran’s South Pars Gas Field

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that “Israel acted alone” in the attack on Iran’s South Pars Gas Field.

During a press conference on Thursday, Netanyahu poked fun at online rumors that he was dead, stating that he was “alive.” Netanyahu also gave an update on Operation Roaring Lion, explaining that both Israel and the United States were “acting together in Iran with great determination.”

Netanyahu responded to a question from a reporter who stated that Trump “did not like the Israeli strike on the Iranian gas fields,” and asked if Trump “was aware of Israel striking that gas field.”

“Well, I’ll say two things. Fact number one, Israel acted alone,” Netanyahu answered, referring to the news that Israel had launched airstrikes on Iran’s South Pars Gas Field. “Fact number two, President Trump asked us to hold off on future attacks.”

....hmm... I'm sure Bibi's thinking is he needs to do what he needs to do to protect his people as they are much closer to Iran than the U.S., but Trump asked him to hold off on future attacks for a reason....so I don't think what Bibi did was agreeable to Trump.

I thought that the U.S. and Israel were working in tandem -- is Bibi now ready and willing to go this alone?  Just wondering.

From article:But here's what they either didn't know or didn't care about: South Pars is jointly managed by Iran AND Qatar. They didn't just attack Iran. They attacked the energy backbone of their OWN Gulf allies.

That is an outright lie.

South Pars, 100% managed by Iran, is an extension of the North field, 100% managed by Qatar.

This is BS reporting.

Bombs for thee, but not for me?

Iran is proving they should never have a nuke, as they are willing to set fire to the world rather than surrender.

Tough as it is, if Iran attacks their neighbor's oil facilities, what choice does one have but to attack theirs?

Buckle up.  We are in some serious financial meltdown with the cutoff of ME energy.

And it won't take long to feel it after gas pump prices soar.

Those on this blog who have been claiming we don't need ME will be proven horribly wrong.

I agree and in fact was thinking the same thing the other day.  It's going to take some sacrificing, rationing, doing without and some fancy budgeting, but how many Gen X and Gen Z's are going to have a hissy fit ... going into the midterms, the DEMS will convince the LIV that it's all the GOP's fault and has nothing to do with saving this country (and the world) from Iranian nuclear capabilities.

Morons.  Listen up.  This is not 1973.  There will be no gas lines in the US.  There will be no rationing.  This is not Jimmah the Peanuts America, you know, the guy most of you voted for before you woke up.

We'll see; it all depends on how long this conflict drags on -- Israel blowing up an oil field without Trump's knowledge could be indicative of what's to come. Bibi trying to lead the U.S. would create greater volatility on the world stage and may create difficulties for the U.S. to bow out when they had planned.

Regardless this conflict WILL affect our economy.  For how long at this point is unknown.

I think the original plan was the U.S. taking out the Ayatollah and Iran's regime, decimating their nuclear capabilities and then exiting.  I think Iran's ability to withstand strikes from both Israel and the U.S. were underestimated.

I listened to a small portion of Vance's speech today and he said prices will eventually come back down ....he didn't allude to how long we're going to be in Iran.  Trump also gave an ambiguous answer to if we were going to have boots on the ground over there, so ... I believe we're going to be there awhile and there's going to be pain at the pumps and perhaps we'll see supply chain disruptions. The markets will likely continue to tank.

Also, Congress holds the purse strings .... Trump doesn't have an endless supply of $$ to see this through.

I'm being realistic, not pessimistic.

All that sounds very sweet and nice, but if one had any sense one would prepare for more than just dipping and swilling.

Me, I doubled up on oil/gas and pipeline stocks a year ago, and plan on enjoying life very well indeed.

Florida does not allow oil drilling off its coast, so I do hope other states can satisfy your indulgences.  Or maybe not.
