I continue to be blown away by using regenerative principles in just my own garden. Most of them have been practiced for thousands of years, and while we have thrown them out because 'science', they work because that's how plants and ecosystems work, and give reliable and superior results.
I'd like to say modern agrtiscience has failed because it took shortcuts but the reality is that regenerative principles are much cheaper and easier. and have a far wider application than just to row crops and yield, like what's going on in the Sahara.
There are opinions now that if we are truly having 'climate change' driven by humans, it's more from mismanaging land than anything with CO2. That is far more plausible to me.
Yeah... Our grandfathers got hoodwinked by modern magic...
'Just throw this triple 16 on there, and stand back!'
And it worked!
cool!
'Just use this hybrid corn and you'll increase your yield by 30%'
And it worked!
'Here, just spray this on there and all them pesky weeds will die'
And it worked!
'Here, just spray this on there and watch all them aphids die'
And it worked!
But it doesn't work. It's an illusion. As the worn out land attests. It set in folks heads, father to son, that these things work... It became the norm... Tradition. But it's damnwell wrong. And I ain't just cussin farming... Ranchers ain't no better. I could go on with them too.
And I ain't all that - I did it too. My landscaping business and my garden and orchard... I have sprayed malathion and diazinon with the worst of em. And Roundup too. I have seen lawns collapse because the only thing we were doing is the big three numbers in fertilizer... Monoculture lawns...
The whole thing.
Now I am a permaculture guy. Sustained. Self-contained. And you're right. The difference is amazing.
