Here We Go Again: Senate Dems Torpedo DHS Funding Bill, High Tail It Out of D.C. As Shutdown Looms
Teri Christoph

Right on the heels of the Thursday announcement by White House Border Czar Tom Homan that Operation Metro Surge would be winding down and federal immigration enforcement in the Twin Cities would soon return to normal levels, Senate Democrats blocked a motion to advance a House-approved bill that would have funded the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for the next year.

And, now, the Senate has adjourned for a week-long recess and its members are jetting out of Washington, D.C., all but assuring that another government shutdown is on the way.

The motion required 60 votes to advance, but it failed by a vote of 52-47. Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) was the only Democrat to cross the aisle and join the Republican effort to get a DHS funding bill on the president's desk before its current funding runs out at midnight Friday.

The mistake here was in not securing the most controversial budget items first. DHS, Coast Guard, etc. funding for continuing repatriations of illegals and other operations should have been the first package passed, and not held back until last. Simply refuse to take up anything else until that funding has been settled.

I think it's pretty evident that a large number of Pubs, in the Senate especially, prefer to see illegal aliens stay in the workforce. The chamber of commerce loves the cheap labor and a lot of Pubs like their indentured nannies and gardeners.

No one seems to be excited about wages rising quicker than inflation, or jobs being filled by Americans rather than the foreign born.

It makes it very tough to support the Pubs in the mid-terms.
Why vote for Republicans if they won't do what they said they would do.

While I agree, the alternative is the Left's agenda surging forward at a pace only exceeded by the Biden Era.

Primary the slugs that can be, but NEVER give ground to the Left.

I'm looking to the primaries to see progress in reforming the Pub party.

I would like to see reform as well...but I am not optimistic.

I probably flew a million miles all around the world before there was a TSA and never encountered a problem of any kind so yes, including the TSA. I have had quite enough of the government taking over thing that are better done by the private sector.

You've got a good point. Why not have airports hire their own security. Also, we can live without FEMA, send money and the Army Corps of Engineers as needed. It seems the only funding in question would be for the Coast Guard.

I'm beginning to believe the Rats position on immigration and ICE is not supported by a large portion of the USA. Obama and Hillary have both recently made comments about how immigration needs to be controlled. A big shift from Ice are Nazi's.

SFB does in Orlando.

Actually, one of my ideas back then was to issue a K-Bar to every adult US Citizen passenger, and collect them at the end of the flight. Everyone knew that if the terrorists got control of the plane, you'd be dead anyway, so you might as well dive in.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
They want to play that game, as soon as the govt shuts down, cut off every Blue states' funds for their programs that are rife with fraud, then go from there.
The Republic is lost.
