Masked suspect seen at Nancy Guthrie's home three weeks before her abduction, sources say
Nest cam image shows suspect visited Nancy Guthrie's Tucson residence on Jan. 11, three weeks before suspected kidnapping: sources
By Michael Ruiz Fox News
Published March 18, 2026 10:57am EDT

Three weeks before Nancy Guthrie's apparent abduction from her home in Tucson, Arizona, a masked man resembling the one suspected of taking her was seen on her front steps, according to multiple law enforcement sources.

Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie, is believed to have been abducted against her will in the early hours of Feb. 1, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

On Feb. 10, the FBI released surveillance images recovered from her Nest doorbell camera. As Fox News Digital previously reported, one of those pictures was taken on a different date than the others, according to another source with knowledge of the investigation.

Authorities have, at different times, asked for neighbors to check their home security systems for the entire month of January, the night of Jan. 11, and the hours surrounding Guthrie’s disappearance, between Jan. 31 and Feb. 2.

Jan. 24 has also emerged as a date of interest, News Nation reported last week, citing a neighbor who said she was asked for video from then, too.

"We don't know what that indicates, obviously, but the most hopeful read on it is that they're looking at somebody and that they're trying to place that person or persons in the vicinity at that hour on those dates to see if in fact, they can begin to work backwards," retired NYPD inspector and Fox News contributor said on "Fox & Friends" Wednesday morning. "Less hopeful, is let's say they have something in the forensics…that shows some kind of unusual activity that they're trying to hone in on."

The masked suspect remains unidentified. According to FBI analysts, he is around 5 feet, 9 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall and has a medium build. Authorities said he was wearing a 25-liter, black Ozark Trail backpack.

All this information that continues on Nancy Guthrie is really nothing new and it seems it is just repeatedly reported as if it is new news.

Somebody thought they could get a big payday from daughter Savannah.  She screwed things up by calling Mark Kelly instead of the FBI.  That may have cost Savannah's mother her life, and I suspect Savannah knows it and she'll have to live with that for the rest of her life.  While I don't like Savannah Guthrie much because of her politics, I am a bit sad for her and I hope she understands she shouldn't have involved that worm Kelly.  He and the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham in Pima County botched this badly!

Gotta agree.  Kelly was an Astronaut and officer, who should have been uber sensitive to CIC sensitivities, procedures, and protocols.  NASA lives and dies by these.

Now as a dim hack politician, and with recent escapades, I really have to question his patriotic loyalties.

Sheriff In Hot Water as Recall Effort Gains Steam

By TMZ Staff
Published March 18, 2026 7:10 AM PDT

There’s a full-blown recall push brewing in Arizona ... with the local sheriff leading the search for Nancy Guthrie getting dragged over what critics are calling his "embarrassing" efforts ... and he isn't dodging the backlash.

The push to boot him is being led by Republican congressional candidate Daniel Butierez, who says the handling of the case by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has been "embarrassing" across the board -- he's also throwing in claims the sheriff fudged parts of his employment history.

Sheriff Nanos admitted a recall is the public's right, saying ... "We’ll always honor the will of the people, and that’s what makes democracy." He's got some time to react, as Butierez mounts his organizational efforts ...

Butierez officially kicked things off last Thursday, giving himself 120 days to gather enough signatures to force Nanos out ... all while county officials are set to review questions about the sheriff’s employment history later this month.

While Daniel Butierez is a long-shot candidate in deep blue Pima County, I hope the Recall is successful.  It might even benefit Butierez.

You'd think that with this level of national embarrassment, that a recall would be a slam dunk...

Can we just put a fork in this.  She's dead.  They will never find her.  Sorry for the family.  But The news has moved on.  Nothing to see.   And I don't care about someone who is related to someone famous.  The shelf life of this story has expired.

May she RIP.

It just seems more and more plausible that this was motivated by vengeance. Somebody got crossways with somebody and the old lady paid the price.

Vengeance as the motive is certainly a consideration, but I still think that somehow the PIMA country sheriff's department is intertwined in this and not in a good way.  Just my opinion.

New: AZ Sheriff Overseeing the Guthrie Abduction Case May Soon Have to Face Voters in Recall

Most Americans before Feb. 1 had little to no awareness of the particulars of Pima County, Arizona, which is in part of the state bordering our neighbor, Mexico. The second largest city in AZ, Tucson, is located in Pima County, though, and during the first days of February, the whole country became intimately familiar with the tale of one resident in particular. You know who I mean: Nancy Guthrie. And in recent days, the tale has taken a political turn unrelated to the alleged abduction case.

Nancy Guthrie abductor likely had as many as four accomplices, retired Pima county detective says
By Patrick Reilly
Published March 20, 2026, 9:44 a.m. ET

A retired Pima County Sheriff detective believes that Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping was premeditated and involved “two to four accomplices,” according to a report.

Kurt Dabb, who worked with the agency now leading the search for the missing 84-year-old matriarch, told Parade that a high-profile abduction like Guthrie’s would need more people involved than just the masked, armed man caught on her doorbell camera that night she vanished.

“I believe there are anywhere between two to four accomplices,” he said when asked if he believes the suspect on camera acted alone.

“The logistics of something of this magnitude is too much for one person to handle in my professional opinion based on the facts as I know them right now,” he added.

“It’s more than likely the home was canvassed prior, either by the kidnapper himself or an accomplice, ” he continued. “Whether or not they knew a camera was there was a culmination of their reconnoiter.”

Not quite sure about that -- why batter an 84 year old woman just for the heck of it?  Accomplices indicates that this was planned and being in an affluent neighborhood I believe they were hoping to make so money.  Otherwise, this was a completely senseless crime.  No goods were taken? No jewelry taken? No ransom?  What was gained?  Which again leads me to believe it was a family member or someone known hoping to make some cash.    Otherwise, she just happened to be home at the wrong time; yet wasn't she just dropped off by her SIL prior to the abduction/assault??

I believe she was kidnapped for ransom.
Either by cartel people, non-cartel illegals, or perhaps even by Americans.
But... that doesn't matter.

What might have happened (and I haven't seen this posted before, anywhere):
The lady was 84 and on a pacemaker, which indicates heart problems.
What if she had a medical emergency not long after her abduction?
And... then died from it?

Now what are the kidnappers going to do?
My guess is they panicked, went to some remote location, and buried the body.
And then (especially if illegals)... disappeared.
Perhaps even back over the border...

IIRC her pacemaker was turned off at one point or another, so likely she died from heart complications and the stress of being abducted.  I think most are in agreement her body is buried or dumped someplace in the vast desert surrounding her home.

I never would have termed Savannah Guthrie all that prominent or famous, though. Yes, I suppose some people watch the Today Show and would know her, but that anyone might have thought about her and said, "I know! Let's kidnap her mother!" - and then found out where her mother lived - boggles the mind.

My thought is Nancy's kidnapping was a matter of convenience..it is probably well known in the area who Nancy was...a chance to make some money...although it was probably well planned it all went to hell when they saw how fragile she was..at that point they had to take her with them and then dispose of her..but that didn't stop them making ransom demands..what I can't understand why they wanted cryptocurrency..I thought that would be easy to trace.

I always thought there was more than one kidnapper..but 4...no way.

Who (thought they) stood to benefit the most from her disappearance?

Cynical me still thinks it is someone close to her or known to her.

No body means less forensic evidence.

Another thing that is clear is that someone is getting away with murder.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

After 50 days, legendary cold-case detective dives into the Nancy Guthrie case — including the most crucial evidence
By Jared Downing
Published March 22, 2026, 2:59 p.m. ET

As the search for Nancy Guthrie hit its 50th day Sunday, leaving the local sheriff desperate and humiliated, a legendary cold-case detective insisted to The Post that the case is still ripe with potential leads.

“Nancy’s case is still very fresh,” said Brian Martin, the crack detective from Fort Payne, Ind., who helped catch the killer of 8-year-old April Tinsley almost 30 years after her murder.

Martin said he is optimistic that law enforcement will track down the abductor of the 84-year-old mom of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, after Nancy vanished with nary a trace from her home near Tucson, Ariz., on Feb. 1.

The detective said his money is still on the DNA.

“I’m sure they have an item of evidence which was probably at the scene and was foreign, meaning this is something that would not have been in her house, and this was something that was probably left by the suspect,” he said.

Martin added that the case is a long, long way from going cold.

“Often agencies will not consider a case cold until it has sat inactive with no leads or evidence developments after three years. I would not consider the Nancy Guthrie [case to be cold] now,” he said.

Sheriff shrugs off missteps in Nancy Guthrie case, calls for captor to ‘let her go’ as family pleads for help
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos says he has 'no regrets' about investigation as case nears two months unsolved

As the search for Nancy Guthrie nears two months, the sheriff leading the investigation is delivering a blunt message to whoever may be responsible while her family pleads for renewed attention to the case.

In a new interview with News 4 Tucson, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos defended his department’s handling of the investigation and insisted he has no regrets about decisions made early on, even as the case remains unsolved.

"Look, I have no regrets about my team and their efforts," Nanos said. "I don’t regret we let the crime scene go too soon or any of that."

Guthrie, 84, the mother of "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie, disappeared the night of Jan. 31 after returning home from dinner with family and was reported missing Feb. 1 after she failed to show up for church.
