Ukraine Strikes Russia’s Iran Supply Route, Hits Sanctioned Cargo Ships and Missile Boat

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) used long-range drones to strike multiple military and logistical targets across Russia overnight on July 25, including air defense systems in Rostov-on-Don and maritime targets in the Caspian Sea.

According to the SBU, the operation targeted Russian military infrastructure as well as vessels allegedly involved in transporting military cargo from Iran.

The agency said the strikes in Rostov-on-Don damaged a 92N6E “Grave Stone” multifunctional radar and its antenna tower, key components of Russia’s S-400 Triumf air defense system. The SBU also reported destroying a Tor-M2 short-range air defense system, a Pole-21 electronic warfare complex, and two warehouses storing FPV drones.

Separately, according to the SBU, Ukrainian drones struck several targets in the Caspian Sea, including the Filanovsky offshore oil platform, the sanctioned cargo vessel Port Olya 2, the dry cargo ship Begey, and a Russian Project 12418 Molniya missile boat.

The SBU said both Port Olya 2 and Begey had been used to transport military cargo between Iran and Russia and are under sanctions imposed by the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Ukraine.  .  .  .

Following his visit to the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, Putin issued an ultimatum to increase the flight range of the MS-21, even though the base model still hasn't been put into serial production for over 10 years, and its release has been postponed yet again, this time to 2027.

Due to sanctions and having to replace Western parts with heavier Russian analogs, the MS-21-310 aircraft gained a lot of weight. As a result, its actual flight range dropped from the promised 5,100 km down to 3,830 km.

To meet the range requirements, "Rostec" officials simply proposed shortening the aircraft's fuselage (the MS-21-210 version), reducing the number of passenger seats to 140. This "smaller plane, fewer problems" approach became a separate source of memes about Russian innovations.

When Putin was told the expected range of the shortened version would be 5,000 km, he calculated with dissatisfaction: "It's 5 thousand to fly here (from Moscow to Irkutsk). We need more!".

However, with such a range, the plane would only be able to reach Siberia one way, with no possibility of returning without refueling.

It would be nice if Putin himself flew on this version of the plane. One way.
