Michelle Obama Urges People to Be ‘Mindful’ of Buying’ White Owned Clothes Brands
by Ben Kew Jan. 20, 2026 10:30 am

Former First Lady Michelle Obama has urged people to be “mindful” when buying from white-owned clothing brands.

During a recent interview clip circulating on social media, Obama says she actively tries to buy clothes from people of “color” in order to “make it a point.”

“If I hear of someone whose fashion that I like, and I know that they’re a person of color, I try to make it a point, but the clothes have to be available.”

“You know, I think we can all do some work to think about that balance in our wardrobes, you know.”

“What does our closet look like and who’s in it? Who are we supporting in it? You know, and I think if you have the money to buy Chanel, then you have the money to buy everybody.”

“And so let us be mindful, I think would be my advice.”

I'm sure she buys only from the innumerable black-owned businesses in Hawaii or Martha's Vineyard whenever she's staying at the Obama mansions there.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I think this is less of a problem than she thinks.  She's famous for her tastes in fashion.

🚨MRS. DR. PUBLIUS ALERT🚨

Oh, the race-baiting charlatan is at it again. The fierce crusader of toxic discourse is feverishly stirring the pot of racial disharmony once more. Michelle Obama apparently used her platform recently to promote fashion designers "who are people of color” by issuing a thinly veiled edict to black women to have your wardrobe reflect a “certain” percentage of these designers' wares.

Before I launch into my response, here are my disclaimers - I am no fashionista. I like comfortable fitting clothing and I rarely get dressed up. That’s who I have always been. There are however, many women who enjoy fashion. I'm sure there are some excellent fashion designers out there who happen to be “a person of color.”  I also don’t see anything wrong with promoting businesses (which happened to be owned by a black person - if you are promoting their service or product, especially if you actually know them).  When I owned my practice, I promoted by my services and my qualifications to perform said services not my ethnicity.

Now, what truly bothers me about this situation is - these black designers Michelle is referring to are probably talented people who have worked very hard in their craft -pursuing their dreams.  In one broad stroke, Michelle has painted their imaginative designs with the putrid stain of racism! Buy their designs because they are black.

Giving someone a platform to present their ideas, their imagination, their talent to the world is laudable but to undercut these designers with her despicable divisive rhetoric is abhorrent. Buy their designs because you admire their work not because of the color of the designer’s skin.

To be honest, I assume any comment coming from the Clintons, Obamas, AOC, Schumer, and the rest of the Dem Power wheel is designed to destroy unity amongst Americans- that’s their only purpose. I advise people out there to do your own research - the Dems never do anything to bring true harmony in our culture. I’m not listening to them.

Michelle, it would be an awe inspiring goal if you helped expose these talented designers to the world by supporting organizations and events that can bring their genus to the world stage. Let their talent pave the path to their success. I have more faith in them than you do.

It never occurred to me that I needed to know the skin color of whomever designed my clothing before I purchased it.

I feel the same! Of course Walmart doesn't have too many high designers. :rolling:

So in her eyes Dr. King was wrong , and we should make our judgments based on the color of a person's skin and ignore character.
