“The speech did not include new timelines, funding details or specific policy proposals.”

Over the past week, national focus has been on New York City and the inauguration of ‘democratic socialist’ Zohran Mamdani as mayor. Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, Katie Wilson was sworn in as the mayor of Seattle, Washington.

Wilson is also a socialist, but I suspect she has gotten less attention because people kind of expect this type of candidate to be elected in Seattle.

KING 5 News has details on her swearing in:

    In a roughly 20-minute inaugural speech, Wilson focused largely on how she wants to govern, emphasizing trust, participation and shared responsibility — rather than outlining specific policy plans.

    Wilson acknowledged the city’s biggest challenges, calling affordability the most pressing issue facing Seattle and describing homelessness as a long-standing problem where the city needs to make “true tangible progress.”

    She framed homelessness as a trust issue, saying city government must listen, respond and deliver results if residents are going to believe change is possible.

Socialist blue city mayor, police guild butt heads over whether arresting drug users is a good thing

Democratic Mayor Katie Wilson of Seattle is denying she ordered police to no longer arrest drug users on Monday after the police union claimed she issued a directive requiring diversion.

Wilson, who won the mayoral election in November on the strength of late mail-in ballots, and Seattle City Attorney Erika Evans campaigned on “progressive” policies to address crime, the Seattle Times reported. Wilson responded to the allegations from the Seattle Police Officers Guild (SPOG) during an interview with Fox 13, a Seattle TV station.
 
“Well, we had we had an interesting kerfuffle this morning around SPD, as I’m sure aware,” Wilson said during an interview with Fox 13 reporter Alexandra Guzman, laughing and later adding, “To me, this whole episode underscores how rumors work, you know. There’s been no policy change, we’ve discussed no policy change and somehow, we woke up to the news this morning there had been a policy change.”
