Greg Brown, Founding Guitarist of Cake, Has Died
Brown played on the band's first two albums and wrote "The Distance"
Oof.

Cake was one of my favorite bands from that era and his licks were perfect fits for the music. You'll still see me grooving along any time "Short Skirt, Long Jacket" pops up on the radio.

Can't tell you how much I love this song. Half a dozen different polyrhythms complimentary but working like pistons in an engine. Genius is an overused term, but definitely alot of that in this.

We hardly know each other, but tears are burning my eyes as I read about the passing of your wife of 50 years. What a jolt to life when you lose your partner in life -- especially one that was by your side for 50 years. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I ask our Lord to comfort you in her absence as well as all her other family and friends. May your memories be sweet of your years together.

Robert Duvall, All-Purpose Actor With Few Peers, Dies at 95

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/robert-duvall-dead-godfather-apocalypse-now-1236506861/

Quote
Robert Duvall, the steely-eyed actor whose performances in the first two Godfather films, Apocalypse Now, The Great Santini, Lonesome Dove and The Apostle made him one of the finest actors of any generation, has died. He was 95.

Duvall, who received an Academy Award — one of his seven Oscar nominations — for his performance as an alcoholic country singer in Tender Mercies (1983), died Sunday at home on his Virginia ranch, his wife, Luciana, announced.

“To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything,” she said in a statement. “His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court. For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all. Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind.”

RIP, Robert Duvall. He was a tremendously gifted actor. His Godfather and Apocalypse Now performances were, of course legendary. But he was also wonderful in films like The Great Santini - my father (also an Air Force vet) just adored that film.

RIP to Robert Duvall. One of his roles that isn't often talked about, but I liked a lot, is his portrayal of the harried police sergeant Prendergast who tracks down Michael Douglas' character "DEFENS" in the 1993 movie "Falling Down":

We've lost one of the best actors of my time.  IMO Lonesome Dove was one of his best.  RIP Mr. Duvall.

I don't recall any bad movies in which Robert Duvall appeared. Lonesome Dove is one for the ages IMHO. Rest in peace Mr. Duvall.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

One of the best that ever was, a total grandmaster of his craft. Reacher and Secondhand Lions are my two favorites of his.

I've also heard he was pretty conservative. Godspeed sir.

One of the all time greats.  And that's not an overstatement.

He made it to 95 and that, along with his career, are things to be celebrated.  wink777

"That's big talk from a one eyed fat man, Rooster."

What a great actor in so many films. I had no idea he was 95. My favorite was "Gus" in Lonesome Dove.

RIP, sir. And thank you for so many great performances.
