Report: Transgender Who Attacked Nashville Christian School Bought Guns with Federal Grant Money

A report by the Tennessee Star appears to show that the transgender individual who killed six at Covenant Christian school on March 27, 2023, purchased her guns with federal grant money.

The Star points to pages from a journal the she allegedly kept during 2021.

Copies of the journal pages were released by the FBI Monday, and readers can see how the transgender shooter compared and contrasted certain aspects of various guns–including various sight configurations and accuracy.

After weighing different types of guns, the Star noted that the shooter, a woman who felt she was a man, referenced the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and numerous payments received from Nossi College when she was attending the Nossi College of Art and Design in Nashville.

t the top of one entry, the transgender shooter wrote, “FASFA [sic] grant checks started at $2,050.86.”

Below that she noted: “$2,656.87 (x3 checks from Nossi).” The next ledger entry states, “+$530.00 (x1 check Nossi) ($3,186.87).”

The Star summarized: “[The] reference to Hale’s federal student aid, located in the writings next to her entries about guns she considered buying, appears to corroborate the claims made by her parents to Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) detectives in 2023, when they told law enforcement their child purchased the firearms using federal Pell Grant money.”

Speaking to the Nashville Metropolitan Police, the shooter’s mother said, “It was the grant money.”

The FBI on Monday released new writings by Covenant School killer Audrey Hale, who identified as a transgender man when she killed six on March 27, 2023, revealing the killer listed hatred for religion as reason to attack the Christian elementary school she once attended.

Hale included the motivator in a list of “advantages” and “disadvantages” the killer titled, “The Covenant School – Alternate Target / 2nd Choice,” which also noted her past history at the school, her knowledge of its layout, but also listed that it was a “bigger school,” and a “private school,” as well as a “school/church,” which meant “more revenue real estate.”

The killer wrote as her last item in the list of reasons to select Covenant as her target, “Christian school (hate religion).”

In the previous section of Hale’s writings released by the FBI, which were dated throughout 2018 and 2019, the killer wrote that she considered her Christian religion an impediment to her emerging views on sexuality and gender identity. ...

The new writings released by the FBI also show that the killer selected March 27, 2023, for her attack on the Covenant School as early as May 9, 2022, when she selected the date tentatively while considering other targets.

Within just the latest tranche of the killer’s writings, she also considered attacking the Opry Mills Mall, the Mall at Green Hills, the middle school she once attended, and Belmont University. ...

In 2023, Audrey Hale, a woman pretending to be a man, attacked the Christian Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. Six people, three staff and three students, were killed, with another two wounded. The police took out Hale during the assault.

The shooting was marred by controversy as the police refused to divulge the manifesto for obvious reasons—Hale likely said some crazy stuff that made the LGBT community look bad. Yet, what we’ve learned recently is that Hale purchased firearms for the attack using federal student aid (via Fox News):

Newly released FBI records connected to the Covenant School shooting in Nashville include writings made by shooter Audrey Elizabeth Hale that shed further light on her motivations, planning and personal finances.

The FBI released more than 100 pages of Hale’s writings following litigation, which included journal entries believed to date back to late 2021, handwritten notes outlining preparations for a school shooting and references to weapons Hale intended to acquire.

Some of the writings list "Christian school (hate religion)" as a reason for targeting the Covenant School.

Money is fungible.  Unless the shooter had no assets sufficient to buy the weapons from other sources, the headline simply means the shooter had Federal student aid of the sort paid directly to the student for expenses like textbooks or off-campus housing.
