One of the terror suspects in the Bondi Beach Hanukkah massacre is believed to have studied religion at an Islamic center in Australia that has ties to other Muslim-run organizations in the country.

Naveed Akram, 24, who allegedly opened fire with his father on thousands of Jews celebrating Hanukkah Sunday night, was tagged in a February 2022 social media post praising him for mastering “all the rules of tajweed” — the recitation of laws of the Quran — at the Al-Murad Institute outside Sydney.

“Another one of my dear students, Naveed Akram, passing the Iqra books and tajweed this morning, perfecting his all the rules of tajweed,” Adam Ismail, head of the institute, said in the since-deleted Facebook post.

The father and son terrorists who opened fire onto a crowd of innocent people, killing 15 at Bondi Beach had six guns with them at the scene, police have said.

The older gunman Sajid Akram, 50, was shot dead by police while his son Naveed Akram, 24, suffered critical injuries and remains in hospital under police guard following the horrific shooting at a Jewish Hannukkah celebration on Sunday night.

NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon confirmed the 50-year-old, who is yet to be formally identified, held a gun licence and all firearms registered to him were legally owned.

Australia has announced plans to strengthen its already tough gun laws with new measures that will restrict who gets a license.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the proposed changes on Monday after a cabinet meeting of state and territory leaders a day after the country’s worst mass shooting in almost 30 years.

Fifteen people were gunned down at a Jewish Hanukkah event on Bondi Beach, in a terror incident allegedly perpetrated by a father and son.

Under the plan, only Australian citizens will be entitled to hold a gun license. There’ll be new limits on the number of guns they can own, and the type of firearms that can be purchased.

Under the proposed changes, open-ended firearms licenses will be limited, requiring gun owners to reapply for approval to hold a license.

The 50-year-old father, who was killed in an exchange of gunfire with police, held a valid gun license, and legally owned six long firearms. He was not an Australian citizen, though his son was.

If the changes proceed, it’ll mark the first major overhaul of Australia’s gun laws since the 1996 Port Arthur massacre  .  .  .

As the heinous antisemitic terrorist attack transpired at a Hannukah celebration in Sydney, where two gunman killed at least 15 and injured dozens, a bystander tackled and disarmed one of the shooters, despite being shot multiple times.

43-year-old Ahmed al Ahmed’s immigration lawyer, Sam Issa, confirmed to media outlets that Ahmed told her he “would do it all over again,” despite the severe pain and injuries. Issa noted Ahmed’s actions stemmed from a sense of gratitude toward Australia, where he gained citizenship in 2022 after fleeing Syria.

- Reuven Morrison, 65, hurled objects at the terrorist, even a brick

- Ahmed al Ahmed, 43, temporarily disarmed the younger terrorist by sneaking up on him from behind

A senior counter-terrorism official has revealed Sajid and Naveed Akram underwent military-style training overseas just weeks before the pair allegedly opened fire at the Jewish Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach.

The father and son travelled to the Philippines in November, a region that has been a hotspot for Islamist militants since the early 1990s, when terrorist training camps relocated from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border to southern Mindanao.

Sajid Akram, 50, and Naveed Akram, 24, arrived from Sydney on November 1 and left on November 28, a Bureau of Immigration spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.

Sajid travelled on an Indian passport while Naveed used his Australian passport.

The southern Philippines has long been controlled by Abu Sayyaf, a violent group known for bombings, assassinations, extortion, and kidnappings for ransom.

For years, it was also a main training base for Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiah, the group behind the Bali bombings that killed 202 people including 88 Australians.

In January, the Australian government provided Philippine law enforcement agencies in Mindanao with new facilities, including a bomb data centre and forensic explosives laboratory to combat terrorism and improve security.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official told the ABC that investigators are now probing the Akrams' ties to an international jihadist network after discovering the pair flew from Davao to Manila, before flying back to Sydney on November 28.

On Sunday PBS acted like the good liberal news channel it is by whitewashing the obvious Islamic roots behind the massacre of Jews at an outdoor Hannukah party at Bondi Beach in Australia. Instead the discussion clung to wholly unrelated incidents in America, like the decade-old Charlottesville march, ignoring the even more virulent anti-Semitism constantly on display at pro-Hamas marches in Australia and America alike for over two years running.

The Albanese Government ignored countless warnings, including from one of the murder victims, Rabbi Eli Schlanger. Instead of cracking down on Islamic hate preachers, the Albanese Government revoked the visas of Jewish and Israeli visitors. Instead of being raided and shut down, radical mosques and extremist Islamic organisations were given taxpayer grants. When the Australian Government recognised a non-existent ‘State of Palestine, I and other Jewish leaders warned that this would embolden extremists and that Australian Jews would ultimately pay the price. The Albanese Government has blood on their hands.”

At funerals, family members have blasted the government for doing nothing to stop the violence and for, in many cases, not even visiting the survivors in the hospital.

Instead, they’re canceling Christmas.
