HAINES CITY, Fla. - What began as a routine investigation into a vehicle crash outside a Publix spiraled into a major overnight operation involving federal agents, a bomb squad, and road closures after a driver claimed to have a "dirty bomb" inside his truck.

The incident started late Friday, December 5, 2025, when Haines City Police officers were dispatched to the supermarket at 39883 Hwy 27 in Davenport. They found a silver Chevrolet Silverado involved in a crash, but the situation quickly escalated when the driver, identified as 43-year-old Benjamin Donald Johnson, refused orders to get out of the vehicle.

Officers eventually had to physically remove Johnson from the truck. During the struggle, police noticed multiple firearms sitting in plain view inside the cab.
