Electric vehicle tax shock: Governments finally bill EV drivers for road use

California expects 64% fuel tax revenue loss by 2040. States are turning to mileage-based charges for electric vehicles to fund crumbling infrastructure.

By means of shrewd lies, unremittingly repeated, it is possible to make people believe that heaven is hell - and hell heaven. The greater the lie, the more readily it will be believed.

In consequence of these facts, all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
OK, I gotta ask. What happened to the gobs of money States have been collecting in fuel taxes for fixing that 'crumbling infrastructure'? (Not to mention tolls).

Sure, tax the EVs by the mile or however, they tend to be heavier than equivalent ICE powered vehicles and that means more road damage.

But how long until the ICE vehicle drivers are paying the per mile tax, too (to be "fair") along with the fuel taxes?

(Not to mention the government collecting just a bit more data on everyone).

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Not to mention three massive federal infrastructure bills passed by Congress over the last decade and a half - two by Obama and one by Biden.  Remember 'shovel ready'?
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

The tax on gasoline is similar to paying per mile.

A colleague lived in Denver during Obama. One of the roads into the Front Range had signs that went up in the spring, proclaiming the highway project was one of those jobs.
In the fall, the signs were removed.
No work was done on the road.
Not sure where the money was shoveled off to.
