PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - A Seminole woman, who was already free on bond for an attempted murder charge filed last month, was arrested again Wednesday after police say she tried to strangle a nurse inside a mental health facility using the charging cord from her own GPS monitor.
The Pinellas Park Police Department took Karen Dedert, 58, into custody on December 3 following the violent altercation at Windmoor Healthcare, located at 11300 US Highway 19 North.
Officers were dispatched to the facility after receiving reports that a patient had assaulted a registered nurse. Upon arrival, investigators learned that Dedert allegedly utilized the power cord from her court-ordered ankle monitor as a weapon. Police stated she wrapped the cord around the victim's neck and forcefully tightened it.
The nurse sustained injuries consistent with strangulation but is expected to recover, according to officials.
