Why the US Navy Tried to Bury a $20M Stealth Boat That Could Change Naval Warfare
The Juliet Marine “Ghost” was designed to solve a deadly vulnerability exposed when terrorists sank the USS Cole with just $500 of explosives.
The Cole was not sunk. The hull was badly damaged and some sailors were killed and wounded, while the ship was stationary in port taking on fuel. The deck watch was helpless against to boat even though they carried guns, but a Bill Clinton order forbade them from having ammo in the guns. The order was its vulnerability.
The Cole was repaired and put back on duty.
No Ghost Ship would have changed anything. Had it been there then instead of the Cole, it would have suffered even more damage.
