Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

One of my favorite carols. Too bad I can't sing it well, lol. The addition of the bagpipe really set it off.

I've listened to the song many times and I could never figure out what type of 'pudding' they were talking about.  Figgy?  I've never had it.  What the heck even is it?

Song Lyrics
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year!

Good tidings we bring to you and your kin.
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year!

Oh, bring us some figgy pudding
Oh, bring us some figgy pudding
Oh, bring us some figgy pudding
And bring it right here!

Good tidings we bring to you and your kin.
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year!

We won’t go until we get some
We won’t go until we get some
We won’t go until we get some
So bring it right here!

Good tidings we bring to you and your kin.
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year!

We all like our figgy pudding

We all like our figgy pudding
We all like our figgy pudding
With all its good cheer!

Good tidings we bring to you and your kin
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year!

We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year!

True story: the year after my aunt passed away, I was driving home from church (where she and I were both prominent elders) Christmas Eve when that song came on... and I admit tearing up a little bit. That song makes a man feel.

The hilarious part is that it's about a bunch of prostitutes who just got busted (it's from the movie/Broadway show The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, which Dolly starred in if you're curious). But it was written, much like Merle Haggard's "If We Make It Through December," in a way that anyone who had lost their job, or is even just going through any sort of grieving during the holiday season, can relate to it.

Story time: I usually do some sort of Christmas show each year. This year I was left out--I wasn't thrilled about that but that's a story neither here nor there. But a long-running karaoke hostess invited me to a couple of parties and sing about a half-dozen songs, both Christmas and regular. I did a couple of country favorites, and then...

Lastly, I decided to do a song that takes place around Christmas, though people don't generally associate it with it (I'd say it's more a New Year song since it's about people hooking up). The drum beat and piano riff kicks in, and the CROWD. GOES. WILD. I've got a bunch of middle-aged women liquored up on Tom & Jerrys singing along like it's Livin' on a dang Prayer or Don't Stop Believin'. It was absolutely wild and one of the most fun experiences I've ever had as a performer.

That song: The Four Seasons, "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)."

Thanks for that reminder @jmyrlefuller ! Although I have seen BLWIT...I completely forgot that it was included.

Merle's "If We Make It..." Many years ago when I was waiting tables a Kips Big Boy This time of year was always brutal. Extremely busy and everyone called in crazy. My fellow waitress (and friend) and I would sing it. Thanks for the memories.
