FBI intercepted communications within Gavin Newsom's office in probe of former aide
Story by Sophia Bollag • 13h

SACRAMENTO - The FBI has notified some current and former members of the Newsom administration that agents intercepted their communications as part of its investigation of the governor's former chief of staff.

Such notices are required by law and expected when the federal government concludes an investigation, according to a source in Gov. Gavin Newsom's office who declined to be named, in keeping with the Chronicle's policy on anonymous sources, because they were not authorized to speak on the record about the investigation. The source declined to say how many staffers were notified or whether the governor received such a notice.

The Sacramento Bee was first to report that some lobbyists in California and D.C. had received similar notices.

News of the notification comes less than a week after Dana Williamson, who served as Newsom's top aide from 2023 through 2024, was arrested and indicted by a federal grand jury on charges she and four other people stole about $225,000 from a campaign account held by Xavier Becerra, the former California attorney general.

A more important question is did ol' Gav know about the corruption of his administration? :pondering:
