The release by the House oversight committee in Congress includes an iMessage chat in which Bannon's name is redacted. The BBC has been able to establish his identity by matching the dates, events and places mentioned.

For example, Epstein discusses chartering a plane from Scotland for the redacted user in the chat, and offers praise for their "Oxford speech". Bannon took part in the News Xchange conference in Edinburgh on 14 November, and gave the speech at the Oxford Union two days later.

But the newly released documents suggest Bannon's relationship with Epstein went further than being his biographer, with the convicted paedophile occasionally seeming to act like a personal assistant.

A few days before the exchange in which Epstein appeared to have arranged a charter jet for Bannon, Epstein said: "how does it feel to have the most highly paid travel agent in history ".

Bannon thanked him: "U r pretty good asst", to which Epstein replied "Massages. Not Included".

Discussing a trip to "AD" in another message - presumably meaning Abu Dhabi - Epstein told Bannon: "I'll make sure you're well looked after."

All of this is so cringeworthy.
