Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the New York City mayoral race this week is a clear moment. Voters chose a 34-year-old Democrat Socialist promising frozen rents, higher taxes on the wealthy, more public spending, etc. You know, all the things communists promise before their overblown Marxism takes control. That is now the experiment New York City residents asked for.

As GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-04) explained:

    Zohran Mamdani’s victory marks the BIGGEST WIN FOR destructive, dangerous, big government SOCIALISM in U.S. history — and a loss for freedom loving American people.

    He’s an unapologetic Marxist — fully EMBRACED by the Democrat establishment.

    Hakeem Jeffries ENDORSED him. Barack Obama personally called to CONGRATULATE him.

    The Democrat Party has officially surrendered to socialists and the radicals who HATE America — they now control the movement.

Say what you want about protests, think pieces, and cable-news freakouts. Elections have consequences. Democracy means handing people what they vote for. If Democrats across our cities insist on doubling down on big government fixes and cultural priorities that chafe with ordinary New Yorkers, then maybe the rest of the country should stop propping up those failing models. Let them have their socialist lab. Watch what it does to schools, budgets, public safety, and the urban fabric. Then leave.

I agree with the sentiment.

But understand this: Most New Yorkers will learn nothing from such failure. The ones that do comprehend will leave the city, if they can.

When grocery store shelves start to look bare - they will blame the store owners.

When apartments become unavailable - they will blame the landlords.

When businesses close their doors - they will blame the business owners.

When public transit becomes a homeless- and crime-infested nightmare - they will blame Republicans in Washington.

I agree with @andy58-in-nh as to whattaya do? These are full grown adults voting to stab themselves in the eye. As I posted on another thread, this is the age of unlimited information via the internet, naivete as an excuse is completely off the table.

This isn't the 1930's, we are well past the idea of starry-eyed utopia. Sitting here a thousand miles away in rural flyover country, I'm sorry but my give-a-darn is busted. As Paul the apostle wrote, sometimes all you can do is shake off the dust and move on.
