Prayers for his family.
I don't recall when I signed on there. I got Zotted over the Cruz or lose comment I made.
Allowed back and then another zotting when I said that Catholics should withhold contributions until the anti-Catholics wee straightened out.
@mystery-ak invited me here via PM and checked it for a while before signing up.
One of the mods from over there asked me to come back an I laughed.
Very happy here!

So what was the relationship between Armstrong and the Robinsons? @Canuck Conservative  - are you implying something financial?

There's a lot about FR that nobody knows.

However, we can still ask questions, and honestly, it looks real strange that only MA is allowed to make personal blog posts on the Main page, when no one else is. And then the quarterly fundraisers that run behind every day except the last two, right on schedule.

I would also point out that TBR is able to run on about $100 per year (I think I got that right), while FR seems to "require" $320,000 every year. Yes, they might have more members, but still ... 3200 times more for expenses?!

And, the Robinsons have never revealed what all that large donation money is actually spent on, and have never agreed to an independent, outside audit. Yet they still expect members to fork over $320K every year without question.

Maybe I've been scammed too much, but all those facts collectively smell funny.

Maybe I've been scammed too much, but all those facts collectively smell funny.

I remember around 2004 give or take that FR was starting to have real influence, not just online but in the streets. I recall threads about developing and expanding that presence and influencing govt at all levels toward more conservatism.

It got to a boiling point of actually starting to happen, then JR just waved a hand and shut it all down. At that point I knew we just got the bait and switcharooney.

Never heard of him until today. Never heard of Delta 7 at FR either. Must have been after I pulled anchor.

RIP to Jim. I was class of 99 over there, and posted there until it was obvious I was going to get banned. So I just said my bit and left of my own volition (never got the zot). Still, I expressed a lot of opinions and posted a few facts over there, and I'm grateful for that opportunity.

I think I was in that class of '99 group. Was banned and resurrected a few times until I think @ 2003 or so.

Learned a lot there, and grew a lot.

Unfortunately, FB was a grouping of what appeared to be easily scammed older people who (mostly by the end of my tenure there) didn't really know what the f#ck they were talking about.

The best part of FR, for me is this right here. Some of my oldest friends hang here so I thank JimRob for providing a platform where I could find you, Bigun, Lando, mystery, Cyber Liberty, et al.

I am both blessed and thankful for that.

At some point I decided this would be my last political forum. Thing is I joined her back in 2011, there was another forum like True blue liberty or something, but that exploded as did libertypost. But yeah, this is it for me.

I joined in 2005 and was "zotted" in 2007 for being a "troll".  Met a lot of fun people whom I'm friends with to this day, so for that I'm grateful.

RIP, Mr. Robinson.

No, but that one's fittings were pretty loose.  LP was my first and only foray into an "anti-freep" forum, and quickly saw how unsustainable that format is.  I've seen an anti-briefer site too.  Geesh!

Yeah, most of us ex-FReepers have questioned the financials for years. $320,000 is a lot of visits to Olive Garden.

I liked Goldi but if you read that forum when it finally closed up shop, she had no friends, no family, no next of kin when she passed. That always blew my mind. They called the police and apparently there was nobody else they could locate that knew her.

I registered with FR in 2006 or there about. It was a fun site with lots of interesting commentary. Some where along the way if you made a post that was even mildly out of step the same group of posters would go into attack mode. Life is way too short. So I just left. No muss no fuss no opus. I doubt anyone would have known me or cared anyway.

I am so glad I found this site by accident. Finding a lot of familiar names was a bonus. Well moderated and for the most part civil discourse. Thank you @mystery-ak !

That being said, I hold no ill will toward JimRob. I never had any personal confrontations. So RIP. I'm sure his poor health didn't help his attitude about a lot of things.

I was going to say, Fullervision.net (my personal site) runs a little under $100 a year and that's with far less bandwidth, storage, a largely static, one-way operation, and being hosted somewhere in the third world. It would only make sense that this site would have a larger bill.

Someone over there is using your handle these days.
My handle over there is Smokin' Joe. There is/was another who goes by Smokin Joe (like my handle here, which would not accept the apostrophe), without the '. I objected to that when they signed up, because the difference is so small as to be ignored if someone says something that is legally actionable, but that complaint fell on deaf ears.

One more reason to stop posting there. Rarely, (because I still have an account there) I will throw in a comment or prayer request.

Upfront: I was banned from FR three times (not once, not twice, but THREE times).
I have not changed from those years, but the site -- and its members -- are now comin' around more to those (cough) "realities" that conservatives tried to sweep under the carpet for far too long.

Having said that, can FR survive without Jim Robinson?
Will his two boys have the ability to keep the thing going?

Admittedly my history over there was relatively short (I think I was active for about a year in 2007-2008 during the infamous Thompson vs. Hunter feud, before I got the zot for flying off the handle in a Sunday talk show thread). I remember some good times running talk radio threads. I remember doing Nielsen analysis of the ratings, lead-ins, lead-outs, etc.

I didn't have a lot of direct run-ins with Robinson, don't remember much about my time there, and never met the guy personally. Robinson, unfortunately, went off the rails. He'd been ill for a long time and you could tell it was affecting his capacity to reason. Not to mention the blatant grifting that still goes on over there, which I've never liked. But that is about as far as I am willing to go as far as criticizing a dead man.

He is in God's hands now, and everything that will entail.

Hopefully.

It's the people that claim that nothing is wrong with them that you have to worry about.
Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

Ditto here on finding others I knew. Bigun led me here and away from the arrogance TOS displayed.

I consider that I am grateful to have experienced TOS, as it illuminated to me how truly fortunate we all here are for the way our BR managers handle things here.

A true blessing to have a forum to find out about and share news and views in an open and (mostly) friendly forum.

And I say this in spite of being unfairly sanctioned once by a moderator, now old history.

It's the people that claim that nothing is wrong with them that you have to worry about.

I tell my kids, nieces and nephews that if they ever find that I am the voice of reason on anything, to immediately call an attorney.

Hey...she saw a Host by the Moon!  Who among us can argue with that?

Jim's ego ultimately wrote checks his butt couldn't cash. He thought he was a national player and kingmaker in GOP politics, especially with the upcoming Iowa primary after he cast his lot with Trump. I told him straight he was a putz and political pissant in this state and I had far more influence than he did, and mine was small.

He didn't like that, he stomped around and talked alot of big mouth after he zotted me but he knew it was true. I know he and his minions camped here from time to time, so I let posted the very same thing here for him to read.

Such a sad downfall from a very promising start. He just flushed it down the toilet around the mid-2000's and it was like watching a slow train wreck.

What could have been.

Funny, since I see alot of harumphing on FR as if even now, they are that big an imprint in conservative(?) politics.  Even now, hardly anyone knows what it is.

I loved it, until the Ever-Trumpism got indeed, fascistic, but never had the delusion that I was making such a big impact by being on FR.  I recall people posting about website visits, etc, and FR hardly was a blip, even c.2018.
