China expels top military generals from Communist Party
Story by Barney Henderson • 4d

China has expelled several of the country’s leading military officials from the Communist Party, its ministry of defense has announced.

Among them is He Weidong, one of two vice-chairs of the Central Military Commission, which is led by Xi Jinping.

Miao Hua, the Chinese army’s top political officer, was also expelled from the party, as Xi broadens his anti-corruption drive.

Nine military officials in total were removed in the latest purge. They have been accused of “serious violations of party discipline,” the statement said.

They are suspected of “grave official misconduct, involving exceptionally large sums of money.”

“The nature of their offenses is extremely serious, and the impact is profoundly detrimental,” the statement said.
