Shooting at Leland High School leaves 4 dead and 16 injured on homecoming night, killer at large

A high school football game turned into a nightmare scene as a shooting left four dead and 16 injured at Leland High School in Leland, Mississippi.

The chilling incident occurred after 11:30 p.m. on Friday during a homecoming game against Charleston High School. Some reports indicate that it occurred just after midnight on Saturday.
 
In response to the "tragedy," Leland Mayor John Lee called off a block party. The mayor informed CBS News that the shooting took place on the main street in the town of just 4,000 residents.

No suspects are in custody. A search is underway for anyone who may have been involved. The Mirror US contacted the Leland Police Department for additional information but was told no more information was being provided and that none was expected.

A shooting at Heidelberg High School during homecoming night on Friday left two dead and others injured.

Heidelberg Police Chief Cornell White was on the scene at the school talking with several law enforcement officials about the incident, as the department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are leading the case.

White said he could not give any information out at this time. When asked if any of those who were injured were students, he said he could not comment, but would provide updates when he was able, likely later Saturday.

Heidelberg was hosting Mize for Homecoming.

According to sources, one victim was found dead at the baseball field, while the other was found deceased in the tailgate area near the home bleachers. The victims have not been identified at this time.  .  .

Two small schools from towns totally opposite... One 90% Black (shooter was 18y/o black male) and the Mize town is 90% White. No info on who the victims were.

Tie in the Montgomery football night shootings between Historically Black Colleges and the Black Belt of the South has been busy.

Back in the olden days (The 70's) we played Football games on Friday night.  With the exception when we play an away game at the predominately black school in our conference.  those games were played Sat.... during the day.
