This seems to be the closest thing the board has to an AI-related thread, so I thought I would post this here instead of making a new thread about it.

Vedal is a streamer on Twitch.com, who is also a programmer. He has created his own LLM-based AI, designed to play games and interact with Twitch chat. He named it Neuro Sama. To give "her" a relatable form, he programmed the AI to be able to control a vtuber ("virtual YouTuber") model. Normally in her livestreams, she uses a 2-D model, but recently he worked out programming to allow the AI to drive a 3-D model. Since then she has debuted with her own custom 3-D environments, as well as interacting with open 3-D environments in the shared online space VRChat. In VRChat Neuro can interact with real people who are also using 3-D avatars. Several people who have interacted with Neuro in the 3-D environment, including Vedal himself, have commented on how the 3-D makes Neuro seem much more "real".

Here's a clip from a recent stream done in VRChat, with Neuro interacting with her creator Vedal (his avatar is normally a small, green, cartoon turtle, but in VRChat it looks more like Kermit the Frog.) It really is disturbing how human-like some of her interactions are.

The NWS map is likely the result of AI “hallucinations,” in which systems dream up false information in an attempt to satisfy their human users’ requests. Breitbart News previously reported on the risk of AI hallucinations including to lawyers using AI tools:

In an internal letter shared in a court filing, Morgan & Morgan’s chief transformation officer cautioned the firm’s more than 1,000 attorneys that citing fake AI-generated cases in court documents could lead to serious consequences, including potential termination. This warning comes after one of the firm’s lead attorneys, Rudwin Ayala, cited eight cases in a lawsuit against Walmart that were later discovered to have been generated by ChatGPT, an AI chatbot.

The incident has raised concerns about the growing use of AI tools in the legal profession and the potential risks associated with relying on these tools without proper verification. Walmart’s lawyers urged the court to consider sanctions against Morgan & Morgan, arguing that the cited cases “seemingly do not exist anywhere other than in the world of Artificial Intelligence.”

In response to the incident, Ayala was immediately removed from the case and replaced by his supervisor, T. Michael Morgan, Esq. Morgan expressed “great embarrassment” over the fake citations and agreed to pay all fees and expenses related to Walmart’s reply to the erroneous court filing. He emphasized that this incident should serve as a “cautionary tale” for both his firm and the legal community as a whole.

Office buildings cannot be easily converted to apartments. Yes, I am well aware of the rules about windows in NYC but that still does not address the fact that office buildings typically have plumbing and electrical infrastructure concentrated at their core. That means to transform office space into apartment space means a wholesale restructuring of these buildings. In many cases it will be cost prohibitive.

It's similar to making a bus out of a box truck. Yes, you can do it but it's a lot easier to just build a bus.

Likewise, AI data centers make for great AI data centers. They're useless for any other purpose.

I agree.

If Judas Priest could be sued because of allegations that if you played one of their songs backward (Better by you, Better than me) it contained the subliminal message "do it", and that it had triggered one suicide and another attempt which left the victim seriously misfigured. Judas Priest was cleared of having placed any subliminal message in the song.

AI, however, could place subliminal and overt messages in most any content. If they are there and it could be demonstrated to have been harmful, or predictably be so, then whatever laws which apply to humans should apply to the machine, too.
