Alberta justice minister says province will 'oppose' federal gun buyback program

Alberta Minister of Justice Mickey Amery tells Power & Politics his government will not enforce the federal government's gun buyback program, calling it a 'confiscation scheme.'

Nobody can 'buy back' something they never owned.
Are they saying that all guns are owned by the government?
And now they are 'buying back' their own property.

And the fat finger of defiance is raised. 

The Rockies NEED guns. Provinces or states, makes no difference.  Varmints that can eat YOU, subsistence from the land in the form of Hunting and farming and gardening - all of which require guns and trapping. in order to reduce varmint loads.

That's Alberta and inland BC for sure, and the territories... And Saskatchewan too, and I would not be surprised to see the Maritimes in tow.

Yep. Not to mention that if you do happen to be beset by miscreants, there's a lot of country between you and the nearest help: You're on your own. I don't see the First Nations going for any such scheme either. Many are Metis People, whose ancestors hunted for a living when the traders and trappers came through and put up trading posts.

The last time Canada tried a long gun registry, it went waaay over budget and noncompliance was north of 50%. They threw in the towel on that in 2012. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Firearms_Registry
