I'm looking for a good Goulash recipe.
1lb 80/20 ground beef or chipped beef
1 yellow onion (fist sized)
1 green pepper
2 sticks celery
2 cans diced tomato
3-4c macaroni noodles.
optional: gravy mix, 1 can tomato sauce, 1 can green chilies, 2 jalapenos.
Chop up veggies - somewhere between a rough chop and a 1/4" dice. get em frying in covered cast iron dutch oven w/ butter or olive oil. when the celery starts to lose bite, take the lid off and throw in the burger. When the burger is browned, add canned goods worry it together and put it to a boil - then simmer till the noodles are ready.
In a separate pot, set water to a boil and add noodles (10 minute noodles, not them crappy 7 minute ones) ... strain, and throw into the pot with the meat mix
Notes: If you have gravy mix, shake it onto the browned burger, enough to form a glaze before adding canned goods... Or do a roux with butter, flour, beef stock if you'd rather. I personally don't like adding tomato sauce, but some folks would.
Better as leftover. And you really need to make a goulash sandwich - cold goulash stacked up on buttered bread.
