NEW: FCC Chair Floats Investigation Into ’The View’

Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr is already looking for his next target after successfully pressuring ABC into “indefinitely” suspending Jimmy Kimmel.

Carr on Thursday suggested his office may launch a probe into the network’s “The View,” the notoriously liberal daytime talk show that went on a similar hiatus earlier this year. Several of the co-hosts have been subjected to reading on-air apologies after making untruthful criticisms of President Donald Trump and members of his administration.

Investigating whether “The View” carries a benefit to the public would be “worthwhile,” the Trump appointee said recently.

“Potentially, I would assume you can make the argument that ‘The View’ is a bona fide news show, but I’m not so sure about that,” Carr told Scott Jennings on his podcast.

“And I think it’s worthwhile to have the FCC look into whether ‘The View’ and some of these other programs that you have still qualify as bona fide news programs and therefore exempt from the equal opportunity regime that Congress has put in place.”

Under the FCC’s “equal time” rule, opinion shows may be required to devote segments to all points of view on an issue. Only “bona fide news programs” are exempt from the rule, Carr claimed.

An analysis by the Media Research Center indicates that “The View” failed to book a single right-leaning guest to discuss politics in the first half of 2025. In that time, 63 liberal guests, including nine Democratic politicians, were hosted on the ABC show.

He's smells blood in the ABC / Disney / ESPN / Hulu waters.

This is what happens when large, over-consolidated media conglomerates have to grovel for Government approval for their next mergers and acquisitions.

These media conglomerates are private corporations who are free to do whatever they must do to return maximum value and return to shareholders.

This isn't an attack against the 1st Amendment as much as it is an attack of the seperation of private corporations and the Government.

Now you have the Government telling private enterprises how to conduct their businesses.  This can't be good long-term capitalist autonomy.  The Government can't even run the Government, and now they want to run private corporations.

Whom would you want to have as a business 'partner', La Cosa Nostra or the US Federal Government?

This is straight up Government racketeering and extortion ... all legal-ish because doesn't have the stones to fulfill its Constitutional responsibilities.

Considering how it has been pointed out that Carr had no communications with ABC prior to Kimmel being pulled (supposedly, that is because a big chunk of the affiliate stations not intending to carry Kimmel, and the further reduced market would tank ad revenues), the way this is stated undermines that (for starters), casting doubt on the veracity of that account.

Any statements of 'going after' a particular show, and not simply enforcing broadcast law provide optics which work against the quest for truth in broadcasting and throw gasoline on cries of "Fascism!" from the Left.

Just STFU and do your job.

Pay out the rope and let that hen party hang themselves in the court of public opinion.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
