Ilhan Omar Faces Major Punishment For ‘Disparaging’ Charlie Kirk After Killing

Republican leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives are considering severe punishment against “Squad” Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) after she drew gasps and denunciations over her recent remarks about the late Charlie Kirk.

An effort to strip Omar of her committee assignments is being spearheaded by Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA), who is running for U.S. Senate, and said Omar and the “radical left have normalized meeting free speech with violence.”

The Georgia Republican introduced a motion on Monday that would see Omar pulled from the House Budget Committee and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. She is also the top Democrat on the latter panel’s Subcommittee on Workforce Protections.

Critics of Omar zeroed in on her comments last week when she told former MSNBC anchor Medhi Hasan that Kirk’s death brought to mind his past positions on gun control.

“But what I do know for sure is that Charlie Kirk was someone who once said, ‘Guns save lives’ after a school shooting,” Omar said. “Charlie was someone who was willing to debate and downplay the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police … downplay slavery and what Black people have gone through in this country by saying Juneteenth should never exist.”

Omar then disagreed with commentators who framed Kirk as “just wanting to have a civil debate,” prompting Hasan to call their characterization a “complete rewriting of history.”

“Yeah,” Omar responded. “There is nothing more effed up than to completely pretend that his words and actions have not been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so.”

She then accused President Donald Trump of “incit[ing] violence against people like me.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., who is part of the cohort of progressive Democrat lawmakers on Capitol Hill known as "the Squad," denied that Democrat voters were celebrating political violence in the wake of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk's assassination.

In video footage obtained by Fox News Digital, Omar was asked about her thoughts on Democratic voters celebrating the death of Kirk and cheering on political violence in the wake of his assassination.
 
"Are you concerned with the rhetoric coming from the Democratic base regarding the Charlie Kirk assassination?" Omar was asked, to which she did not respond. "Why are Democratic voters celebrating political violence?" Omar was then asked again.

But, evidence appears to show that many folks have been facing repercussions over their decision to mock, or praise, Kirk's death. This includes K-12 education officials, college professors, healthcare professionals, political pundits, writers and a list of other professionals from various sectors and major companies, such as the law firm Perkins Coie, the company behind the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, and Office Depot, among others.

Ilhan Omar says that Somalia is a better country than the United States

President Donald Trump on Thursday officially joined the chorus of Republican lawmakers who have been calling for U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) to be expelled from Congress over a recent interview in which she appeared to defend the murder of Charlie Kirk, among other things.

The controversy largely stems from an interview Omar sat for with Mehdi Hasan, a far-left commentator who previously hosted a primetime show on MSNBC, in which she portrayed Kirk as a radical who brought on the assassination himself.

“But what I do know for sure is that Charlie Kirk was someone who once said, ‘Guns save lives’ after a school shooting,” Omar said. “Charlie was someone who was willing to debate and downplay the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police … downplay slavery and what Black people have gone through in this country by saying Juneteenth should never exist,” she added, blatantly taking Kirk’s words out of context.

Omar then disagreed with commentators who framed Kirk as “just wanting to have a civil debate,” prompting Hasan to call their characterization a “complete rewriting of history.”

“Yeah,” Omar responded. “There is nothing more effed up than to completely pretend that his words and actions have not been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so.”

Despite her comments, as well as a recent speaking event in which she doubled down on them, four House Republicans voted to table a motion to censure Omar and strip her of her committee assignments. The move has sparked fury among the Republican base, though President Trump is now calling on the House GOP caucus to take things a step further.
