Excerpt:
Austin’s leaders just spent $1.1 million and seven years on a new city rebrand — and the result has Texans howling with laughter.

The capital city, once proud of a seal that reflected Texas’ history and faith, has replaced it with what critics say looks like a half-baked doodle. Designed by a firm literally called Pentagram (you can’t make this up), the new logo ditches heritage for a generic “A”-shaped swoosh that supposedly represents hills and bridges.

It feels like a mark for a big healthcare company

I’m not one to pile on to rebrands… but… this is awful.

LOL!

At first glance it looks like "Autisim!"

Some City Council member cousin/neighbor/friend/uncle/brother-in-law/partner just got $1.1 million dollars.

Rebrands about nothing ...

The purpose of branding is to stand out in crowed market place.

The fact that they have to put the name of the city on the logo means the logo is a major fail.

A good logo makes use of a unique combination of shapes and colors that positively imprints a brand  upon the mind, such that conscious thought and cognition are not required for recognition.

I prefer the old New England Revolution logo (on the right) because it relies on the part(s) of the brain that processes shapes and colors for recognition with less conscious cognition.

The new logo (on the left) requires significantly more conscious cognition to achieve recognition.

It's Austin.  They can Gay up anything.
You don’t become cooler with age but you do care progressively less about being cool, which is the only true way to actually be cool.

Had the exact same thought. Without spelling out 'Austin' nobody would have any clue what that logo is supposed to mean.
Nobody looks at that and says, "Oh, I see. That is an 'A'." Not only does it not look like 'A', how does A equal Austin?

To me, without spelling 'Austin', it looks like something having to do with the beach, or the ocean.

The state flag of Texas looks like this:

Red, white, blue and a star - all elements are obvious tributes to the United States flag.

But "Austin" uses green (an environmental tribute, one supposes) and purple (the preferred hair color of leftist lunatics everywhere) and a logo that looks like it belongs to a Colorado ski resort.

"Keep Austin Weird", right?
"If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people."    -Calvin Coolidge

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.

Actually, the 'A' is behind the curve.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

It was all so that they could get rid of the cross.

Seven years and $1.1 million.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-
