    Summary

   * Rescuers comb rubble of homes in remote mountainous area
   * Impassable roads, rough terrain
   * Helicopters ferry the injured to hospital
   * Midnight quake hit at a depth of 10 km (6 miles)
   * Taliban-ruled Afghanistan struggling with sharp drop in foreign aid

KABUL, Sept 1 (Reuters) - One of Afghanistan's worst earthquakes killed more than 800 people and injured at least 2,800, authorities said on Monday, as rescuers struggled to reach remote areas due to rough mountainous terrain and inclement weather.

The disaster will further stretch the resources of the war-torn nation's Taliban administration, already grappling with crises ranging from a sharp drop in foreign aid to deportations of hundreds of thousands of Afghans by neighbouring countries. ...
Yes, Reuters' takeaway is that the U.S. took away the Taliban's money: Funding cuts to Afghanistan obstruct earthquake response

We did not take away money from them, instead giving them $70 billion worth of equipment and arms, while leaving them a gigantic airfield funded and built by us.

The Afghanis could take care of earthquake victims, you know, if only the U.S. sent another $70 billion.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Exactly what happened since 2005 when Israel abandoned Gaza and what the Palestinians did to its productive fields.

Gaza was self-sustaining by Israel and now the strip is a welfare state with starving populace

A fresh 5.2-magnitude earthquake hit the east of Afghanistan on Tuesday, jolting a region still struggling with the aftermath of a powerful quake at the weekend that killed 1,400 people.

The epicentre of the tremor was close to where a magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit late Sunday night, devastating remote areas in mountainous provinces near the border with Pakistan.

The "quake was felt in the same areas which were affected in Kunar (province) in the first earthquake," Ehsanullah Ehsan, the disaster management spokesman in the hard-hit province, told AFP. ...

The number of victims from Sunday's earthquake has mounted steadily, with 1,411 people dead and 3,124 injured in Kunar alone, chief Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on Tuesday, making it one of the deadliest to hit the country in decades.  ...

No.  Let Taliban-lovers foot the bill.  Or, the Taliban could move more heroin.

They likely already did as the Chinese and Russians pay top dollar - even better than the poppies.
