Pregnant teen shot during 'brake-checking' road rage incident dies after baby is saved
Story by Jamie Frevele • 15h

A Louisiana teenager who was 27 weeks pregnant when she was shot during a road rage incident has died, resulting in a murder charge for the alleged shooter.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office announced in a press release that 17-year-old Katelynn Strate, who was shot during an altercation with 54-year-old Barry West, succumbed to her injuries on Aug. 26.

Strate was 27 weeks pregnant when she was allegedly shot by West while sitting in the front passenger seat of a Ford Expedition carrying two other people on Aug. 24.

Police said West fired at the Ford from his Dodge truck after the two vehicles "were tailgating and brake-checking each other."

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
There is an element of 'play stupid games...' in this, but what an avoidable and tragic outcome.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
