The implication so far is, he was giving/selling secrets to foreign governments. If they have solid evidence of that - that is serious stuff.

Excecution? I believe you're right.

The last guy I recall ever actively being considered for treason charges was John Walker Lindh, who defected to the Taliban prior to 9/11 and ended up fighting against the USA in the GWOT. He avoided the charges and ended up serving over a decade in jail on a bunch of other crimes instead because he testified that he feared for his life if he defected from the Taliban.

I'm curious as to why Bolton is now suddenly the big, bad boogeyman for the DOJ/FBI?  Seems to me that they've got much larger fish to fry over more serious crimes, and it troubles me that they are targeting a Republican instead of a corrupt Democrat---there are plenty out there to choose from, like McCabe, Strzok, Blinken, Sullivan, Bernal, etc..

Just seems petty and vindictive to me since Bolton will never work in government again, and he WAS Trump's former National Security Advisor.

Having your own NSA person sell national secrets for personal gain is no minor thing. Biden and crew buried it because it served them to. Now that information has come to light under new management. Not really "suddenly". And the bottom line is those who do this need to be made an example of in order to prevent it in the future with others tempted to do it.

We already know Bolton used unauthorized US intel for his book for profit. Just because you don't know the details doesn't mean others don't. How about wait for the facts to come out instead of assuming too much.

Why exactly, Fred?  The only thing I think he's done is piss off Trump.  Like I said before, the whole classified docs thing is now passe.  Berger got away with not only actually stealing docs but destroying them, and we all know about Hillary's secret server and 30,000 classified emails.  And then there is Trump and his 15 boxes of classified stuff at Mar-Lago that he had planned for his book (remember he showed it all to a ghost writer), and Biden's in his garage next to his Corvette. 

So if Bolton is guilty then Trump surely is too.

And looking back at this guy's career, I think the suggestion that he's been passing classified info to foreign government absurd, considering how eager he has been to crush our enemies overseas before they attack us here.  That's what Bolton is all about.

Except, of course, President Trump could.   Biden, as VP could not and neither could Bolton, the research clerk.

Having said that, why not hold your fire until we get a first look at the search warrant?   It could pleasantly surprise you.

FBI Reveals Evidence Collected During John Bolton Raid

on September 4, 2025

Additional details on the raid targeting former National Security Adviser John Bolton have emerged after the FBI released a public inventory of the items seized from his properties in an August 22 raid.

Federal investigators seized three computers, two iPhones and reams of documents from Bolton’s Bethesda, Maryland home last month. The bureau also confirmed that Bolton is under criminal investigation for potentially mishandling classified documents and could soon face criminal charges.

The FBI raided both Bolton’s Maryland home and an office building in Washington D.C. as part of an investigation as to whether the 76-year-old illegally took classified documents to include in a book he published in 2020.

In addition to the electronic devices, agents seized two USB drives, a hard drive, four boxes of “printed daily activities,” “typed documents in folders labeled ‘Trump I – IV’” and a white binder labeled “statements and reflections to allied strikes,” according to an inventory released to the public Thursday. The warrant also confirmed that Bolton is being investigated for allegedly violating two sections of the Espionage Act of 1917, which prohibits unauthorized removal or possession of national defense information.

The former Trump ally turned critic is also possibly in violation of another law pertaining to hoarding classified documents, investigators said.
