After 1 SDNY Judge Denied Unsealing Maxwell Transcripts Now 2d Denies Epstein Unsealing

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Aug 20 – With Ghislaine Maxwell in prison, she has offered to testify to Congress about Jeffrey Epstein - with significant conditions.

Meanwhile just before midnight July 29 DOJ in a filing in SDNY said it submitted Epstein and Maxwell grand jury information under seal, filing on Patreon here.

On August 11 Judge Paul A. Engelmayer denied DOJ's bid to unseal the transcripts in US v. Maxwell - 30 page order on Patreon here.

On August 20, after the House Oversight Committee said it will be getting some Epstein files by August 22, Judge Richard M. Berman denied unsealing of Epstein grand jury transcripts and exhibits, 14 page order on Patreon here.  ...

Isn't grand jury secrecy sacrosanct in our judicial system?

Wednesday’s ruling was not the first time federal courts have blocked attempts to unseal records tied to Epstein.

Earlier this month, Judge Paul Engelmayer, also of the Southern District of New York, rejected a government motion involving grand jury transcripts from the Ghislaine Maxwell case. Maxwell, Epstein’s former associate, is serving a 20-year sentence after being convicted in 2021 of trafficking minors on his behalf. In that opinion, Engelmayer said there was little value in releasing the sealed testimony because evidence had already been publicly presented during Maxwell’s monthlong trial. He noted that the grand jury records did not suggest any additional individuals beyond Epstein and Maxwell had engaged in sexual activity with minors. ...
