Border czar Tom Homan has stated that President Donald Trump’s federal takeover of Washington D.C. policing is leading to the suspension of sanctuary policies, enabling Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to collaborate directly with the Metropolitan Police Department. The move has sparked backlash from Democratic officials, with opponents accusing the administration of overreach. Despite the pushback, Trump officials have maintained that sanctuary protections will remain suspended under the new federal oversight.
 
Attorney General Pam Bondi has reportedly transferred control of MPD to Drug Enforcement Administration Administrator Terry Cole. In this transfer, Bondi revoked the city’s sanctuary policies.

Homan said, “D.C., under federal control, is not gonna be a sanctuary city.” He said, “We’re working with the police hand-in-hand, and if we encounter a criminal illegal alien, they will be turned over to ICE.” He added, “criminal safety threats.”

Homan noted that ICE collaborated with the MPD to transfer criminal suspects posing public safety threats. The White House reported that about 850 officers and agents conducted an initial operation, resulting in 23 arrests in one night.
