Mass ICE Roundup Sparks Outrage
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has announced the arrest of 356 noncitizen gang members following a targeted Enforcement and Removal Operations sweep. Supporters praised the effort, noting that it enhances public safety by removing violent offenders. Immigrant rights advocates have countered, warning of due process concerns and government overreach.
ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Houston acting field office director Gabriel Martinez said, “Despite attempts by some to undermine the courageous work being done by our officers, the brave men and women of ICE continue to put their lives on the line every day to arrest violent transnational gang members, foreign fugitives and dangerous criminal aliens.”
ICE reported that the arrestees have 1,434 illegal entries and 1,685 criminal convictions in total. The agency noted that the effort targeted violent offenders and repeat border crossers.
Those arrested include members of more than 40 gangs, led by Paisas, MS-13, and Tren de Aragua. Others were linked to Tango Blast, 15th Street Gang, Latin Kings, and Surenos-13.
