Illegal Alien, Twice Deported and Smuggled in Twice, Attempts to Flee, Injuring Federal Officer in Vehicle Chase
In a joint operation on August 11, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in San Diego arrested an illegal alien from Mexico with a history of deportation and criminal activity. The individual, who had been previously deported from the U.S. twice, was found to have a prior conviction for driving under the influence (DUI).
According to records, the individual was smuggled into the United States on two separate occasions in October 2020 by hiding in the trunk of a vehicle that crossed through the San Ysidro Port of Entry.
During the recent operation, agents conducted a vehicle stop. The driver, identified as the illegal alien, allegedly attempted to flee, causing damage to two government vehicles and injuring a federal officer. The suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident.
The incident was cited by officials as a prime example of how certain policies, such as those in "sanctuary cities," can allegedly hinder federal immigration enforcement and allow criminal aliens to remain in communities, posing a risk to public safety.
