There have always been homeless. The big difference being...they didn't stay in one place and try to set up permanent camps in the middle of cities.  There have always been vagrancy laws.

Perhaps the homeless should go back to being invisible and the vagrancy laws enforced.

I sincerely hate that families have been forced on the streets of late. But there are usually NGOs that can help them. I always think, there but for the grace of God go I.

If you're wondering where you're gonna SEND all those homeless and miscreants, I have a solution:
Borrow a train or two from Amtrak.
Put engines on both ends.
Load 'em up and send 'em north out of DC.
Turn the trains at Baltimore.

Tell them, "the ride's free, get off anywhere you wish".
That oughta do it...

So everybody here is A-OK for the U.S. Army to go into DC, attack the homeless, burn their tents, and drive them out of the city?
I didn't say I was okay with the action taken then, but there is precedent for a lot worse than getting people to relocate out of DC' public spaces. If you let the little laws be ignored, it is a small step to ignoring the big ones.


Maybe you should google something more recent, like "Resurrection City" in 1968. While that was going on, all school trips to DC were suspended for us (I lived in MD at the time). Better to nip this mess in the bud than let it reach those proportions again. It is a part of the anti-crime campaign. It's a sad deal when the Nation's Capital is in the top ten (#4 in 2024: https://www.rit.edu/liberalarts/sites/rit.edu.liberalarts/files/docs/CPSI%20Working%20Papers/2025-02_CPSI%20Working%20Paper_US%20City%20Homicide%20Stats.pdf) murder cities in the country. That is just homicide, not the other violent crimes that take place there.

The homeless miraculously disappeared from the streets of downtown Boston for two weeks during the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

The party of 'defending democracy' also had a designated, fenced-in (more or a chain-link cage) protest area that was convenitently out of sight and hearing of Convention delegates and VIP's.

From the cynical Dem perspective of 'never let a good crisis go to waste', the Dems want/need homelessness and illegal immigration as 'crisis' or 'emergency' to grow Government and increase taxes.

Contrary to popular myth, Libs don't "tax and spend" - they spend, then tax.  Budget deficits are great excuses and crisis for increasing taxes.

When there are budget deficits, why do Dems layoff teachers, cops, firefighters, and EMT's first?  Because nobody will submit to a tax increase to save the job of Government administrators, but they will tolerate tax increases to save front-line personnel.
