How can someone clearly lacking in command presence have been promoted to sergeant? Per the article, he had zero military bearing and thus could have never inspired trust and respect from his subordinates -yet he was promoted to a rank for which he was unfit on every criteria. His promotion sounds almost cruel, not to mention obviously foolhardy.

The Army has automatic promotions...something from the Obama era that needs to go away.  You don't go to a board...you're just on the list with the minimum number of points needed to get promoted.  Zero motivation to better yourself or accomplish anything.
