This is winning: July 21, 2025, is the date that the Biden administration’s paper straw mandate was officially scrapped.

President Donald Trump’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) announced the rule ending federal agencies’ ability to purchase and promote those lovely, flimsy, soggy substitutes that we’ve all come to hate.

Yes, this only applies to federal institutions for now, but hopefully, all other agencies will follow suit.

Freedom of choice for the business, not the consumer.  Personally, I like paper straws, and would be happiest if the choice devolved to the consumer, with businesses serving beverages with straws offering both.  (There might be enough of us, both oldsters with a nostalgia for paper straws like me and "greens" under the delusion that plastic straws in landfills are somehow harming things, that it would be a good business move.)

Never seen a paper straw... And last I went, I could still get 60w, 100w and 100w 3-way incandescent bulbs. Might be others, those are just what I stock.
