House Republicans float grilling Joe, Jill Biden as former aides stonewall cover-up probe
Longtime Jill Biden aide Anthony Bernal spoke to investigators behind closed doors

House Oversight Committee Republicans are not ruling out potentially compelling former President Joe Biden and former First Lady Jill Biden to appear before Congress as part of an investigation into whether signs of Biden's mental decline were covered up during his time in the White House.

"Every option's on the table. We're going to try to get answers. We're going to try to do this rapidly," House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., told reporters when asked if the former president could be brought in for questioning.

"We'll decide as a committee what steps to take next and who to bring in. But I think right now every option is on the table."

Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., was more forceful in his demands for more high-profile witnesses – noting he was speaking for himself, rather than the committee.

Rep. Comer: ‘The odds of calling in Jill Biden’ as witness in autopen investigation ‘increased significantly today’
July 17, 2025 | Hailey Gomez

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said Wednesday on Fox News’ “Hannity” that the “odds” of requesting former First Lady Jill Biden to testify in the autopen investigation have “increased significantly.”

On Sunday, Biden told The New York Times that he had granted staff use of his autopen because he was granting “clemency to so many people.” With former aides already being questioned, Fox News’ Sean Hannity asked Comer whether he would consider calling Jill Biden after her former chief of staff, Anthony Bernal, pleaded the Fifth before lawmakers.

“Well, I think the odds of calling in Jill Biden increased significantly today,” Comer said. “We had her chief of staff, her self-proclaimed work husband, there for what we plan to be an eight-hour deposition. He kept invoking the Fifth Amendment, and his lawyer finally said, ‘You can ask all the questions you want. We’re gonna invoke the Fifth Amendment on every question.’”

“So we need to know, was Jill Biden the one calling the shots while Joe Biden was incapacitated? Anthony Bernal had an opportunity to answer those questions today. He chose to invoke the Fifth Amendment. So I would say her odds significantly increased,” Comer added.

i am certain that many will disagree with my opinion, but here goes. I am against forcing the former President to testify. Given what we know about his mental decline and lose of cognitive ability it will be like kicking a puppy. If they press his to hard they will look like bullies. My FIL had dementia and it was cruel to press him on any questions.

:yowsa: And there is absolutely nothing to be gained by doing it. Joe wouldn't be able to tell them how he got there that day much less anything of note.

What goes around comes around.  If the Dems ever return to power, their first act will be to call Donald J. Trump to testify before Congress.

Put the screws to the high-level White House aides that directed and executed AutoPen.

They won't get far with this approach.

Dr. jill can claim spousal privilege. What are they going to do about it?

As to ol' white joe, I agree with verga above.
ol' joe isn't gonna give 'em much.
(not because he's withholding info -- he just doesn't HAVE much left to give...)

Hmmm...
Perhaps the time is right to introduce a short Constitutional Amendment that will require any law, executive order, or other legal document issued by the president, to be personally SIGNED BY the president in the presence of witnesses.

All the Pubbies in Congress would vote for this.
Possibly, even some of the dcommunists, as well -- perhaps enough to get it over the hump and "out to the states" for ratification...

All an interview would do is create sympathy for him.

Exactly. The rest will come across badly, and there is likely little to be gained.

The autopen gang should be up on charges, though.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
