In as much as I really like DeSantis, IMO he is just plain wrong on this.  This could easily turn out to be a disaster.

DeSantis suggests Musk put resources toward getting states to ratify balanced budget amendment

Gov. Ron DeSantis suggested Elon Musk could make a bigger impact by putting his resources into persuading up to 34 state legislatures to ratify a balanced budget amendment and call a convention, rather than funding a new political party and a handful of congressional candidates.

During a press conference, DeSantis warned that starting another party could backfire.

“The problem is, when you do another party, especially if you’re running on some of the issues that he talks about, that would end up if he funds Senate candidates and House candidates and competitive races, that would likely end up meaning the Democrats would win all the competitive Senate and House races,” DeSantis said.

He said the problem lies with Congress, adding, “We have a problem in the Republican Party with these DC congressmen. They always run saying there’s out-of-control spending and they’re going to spend less, and they never do it.”

“Elon was doing DOGE and a lot of Congress didn’t want anything to do with actually adopting the DOGE cuts, just like they didn’t want to adopt the Trump executive orders on immigration and all these other things, which I think you have to adopt in law if you want them to have staying power,” DeSantis said.

He said he believes “there is a lot of frustration with the gap between the rhetoric and their district and the performance once they get into DC.”

DeSantis said the most effective way to control government spending would be to pass a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution through the states.

He pointed out that under Article V, 28 states have already approved such measures. Once 34 states sign on, he explained, an amendment could be drafted and ultimately ratified by three-quarters of the states...............

A Balanced Budget Amendment is pointless because those ambulance chasers in DC will change the interpretted legal meaning of the words 'balanced' and 'budget'.  Plus, they'll use Enron-style accounting to keep things off the main ledger.

It's more effective to vote them out of office or primary them.

  • Dems-greatest existential threat to USA republic!
DeSantis is giving  Musk excellent advice.  Musk is wasting his time.  Money will not buy him this change, which both existing parties have etched in granite against change.

I hope DeSantis is the leader in 2028.  He is conservative, and he makes things happen.
