Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo conceded New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary to Zohran Mamdani as the 33-year old member of the state Assembly had a significant lead in the race Tuesday night.

Cuomo’s concession came as the race’s outcome will be decided by a ranked choice count after neither Democrat got a clear majority in the vote.

Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist member of the state Assembly, started to pull ahead with more than an estimated 80% of ballots counted.

Cuomo, in a speech to supporters, said Mamdani “won” and that “we are going to take a look and make some decisions.”

“Tonight is his night,” Cuomo said.

This result seems to indicate that most normal Americans have already left New York.

Cuomo must be losing his freaking mind right now. The Democrats were crazy to try to run him again.

Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) and House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) on Wednesday praised Zohran Mamdani following his Democratic primary victory in New York City's mayoral race, saying that Mamdani's socialist campaign—which includes proposals such as government-run grocery stores—resonated with voters.

"I think what's clear is that [Mamdani's] relentless focus on affordability had great appeal all across the city of New York," Jeffries said when Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough asked if Mamdani's upset win Tuesday evening over former New York governor Andrew Cuomo "provides a roadmap for Democrats running in 2026 on how to energize the base."

Mamdani "outworked, out-organized, and out-communicated the opposition," Jeffries told Scarborough.

Schumer echoed the praise, writing in an X post that Mamdani "ran an impressive campaign that connected with New Yorkers about affordability, fairness, & opportunity." Schumer added that he spoke to Mamdani Wednesday morning and will meet with the socialist candidate soon.

So everybody is in a panic that Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic primary for the New York City mayor’s race.

And there deserves to be something of a panic, because it’s not just him it symbolizes something I’ve been warning Legal Insurrection readers about for a decade: what’s called the Red-Green Alliance.

It’s the alliance of the extreme far-left and the Islamists, and they get together and they join forces, and they’ve been doing it for years. We’ve been seeing this play out most prominently on the campuses, where people who have nothing in common get together to hate the United States, to hate Israel, and to hate Jews more than anybody. And that’s what we’re seeing play out with him.

Be cautious of this guy.

New York City Democrat mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, a self-described socialist, is vowing to help violent illegal alien convicts evade federal immigration enforcement if elected in November.

On Tuesday evening, Mamdani delivered a major upset in the city’s Democrat mayoral primary, beating out the likes of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and current Mayor Eric Adams.

Mamdani, an immigrant born in Uganda, has said he would like to expand on the city’s sanctuary policies that continue to shield illegal aliens from federal immigration enforcement by banning the New York City Police Department (NYPD) from cooperating with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In a prior questionnaire with The City, Mamdani made clear that he would like to see the NYPD banned from turning even the most violent illegal alien convicts over to ICE agents:

Wouldn't surprise me.  He never would have won 20 years ago, but those voters are gone and replaced by foreigners.  And I think Schumer is about to be unseated by AOC.
