General Flynn Gives Update On ‘Rift’ Between Trump And Tulsi: ‘That Was A Setup’

General Mike Flynn is claiming that a “setup” was in the works all along to sow divisions in the upper echelon on the Trump administration, he explained in a recent interview.

Speaking with conservative influencer Benny Johnson, the former Trump military advisor claimed that Tulsi Gabbard, Trump’s embattled director of national intelligence, was sabotaged when she declared during a recent congressional hearing that Iran is far from finishing its work on a nuclear weapon. The remark was quickly rebutted by Trump, who said he didn’t “care” what Gabbard had to say as he contemplates whether to bomb the country.

“I’m trying to do my part to help them,” Flynn said. “Tulsi Gabbard is effective.”

He is the second person near President Trump to speak up in defense of Gabbard since her remarks, ones she quickly obfuscated with the release of a video warning about the perils of nuclear war, which wasn’t run by the White House. Vice President J.D. Vance previously offered a full-throated defense of Gabbard on social media.

Since her testimony, the former Democratic congresswoman has found herself iced out of the Situation Room and other war-gaming between Trump and top military advisors, though they have downplayed her absence as unrelated to his displeasure with her comments.

“Has she got all the requisite skills and background? No. But she’s somebody who has the ear of the president. I still believe she has [his] trust and confidence because we cannot give up,” said Flynn.

'She's wrong': Trump says Tulsi Gabbard incorrect about Iran not having nuclear weapon capabilities
Gabbard said in a March Senate hearing that intelligence shows 'Iran is not building a nuclear weapon.'

President Donald Trump told reporters Friday that his Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, is "wrong" in her assessment that Iran is not close to building a nuclear weapon.

Trump's comments came after he departed Air Force One en route to his Bedminister, New Jersey, golf club, when he stepped aside to take a few questions from reporters.

"She's wrong," Trump said after he was asked about Gabbard's assessment that Iran is not close to building a nuclear weapon. "My intelligence community is wrong."

Following Trump's comments, Gabbard took to social media and blasted the media for "intentionally" taking her March testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee "out of context."

"The dishonest media is intentionally taking my testimony out of context and spreading fake news as a way to manufacture division," Gabbard said in a post on X, accompanied by a video clip of her March testimony to Congress.

"America has intelligence that Iran is at the point that it can produce a nuclear weapon within weeks to months, if they decide to finalize the assembly. President Trump has been clear that can’t happen, and I agree."

Trump's remarks were preceded by a question from a reporter asking the president, who publicly opposed the Iraq war roughly 20 years ago, what made this situation with Iran different – considering no weapons of mass destruction were ever found after the George W. Bush administration invaded Iraq.

"There were no weapons of mass destruction. I never thought there were. That was somewhat pre-nuclear. You know, it was –  there was a nuclear age, but nothing like it is today," Trump said. "And it looked like I'm right about the material that they've gathered already [in Iran]. It's a tremendous amount of material. And I think within a matter of weeks, or certainly within a matter of months, [Iran was] going to be able to have a nuclear weapon. We can't let that happen."

In March, DNI Gabbard said during an opening statement to the Senate Intelligence Committee that the intelligence community "continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and Supreme Leader Khamenei has not authorized the nuclear weapons program that he suspended in 2003."

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Flynn is right, of course. The media have been seeking to divide the administration from the start.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
