Following an intensive two-day manhunt, Vance Luther Boelter, suspected of murdering Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband in their Brooklyn Park home early Saturday, and shooting State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife in their Champlin home shortly afterward, was arrested on Sunday night. Boelter, 57, was captured in a field located near his Green Isle home in Sibley County.

Following his arrest, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office posted the following message: “The face of evil. After relentless and determined police work, the killer is now in custody. Thanks to the dedication of multiple agencies working together along with support from the community, justice is one step closer.”

According to charging documents from the Hennepin Country district court, Boelter faces two counts of second-degree murder, “with intent — not premeditated,” for “acting with the intent to kill, caused the death” of Victims 1 and 2 “using a firearm,” and two additional counts of second-degree murder, “with intent — not premeditated”, for “acting with the intent to kill, attempted to cause the death” of Victims 3 and 4, “using a firearm.”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minnesota is bringing federal charges against Vance Luther Boelter, the man who was arrested following the assassination of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman. ...

Since then, Boelter has been transferred to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service and was scheduled appear in federal court this afternoon.

At a press conference, Acting U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson unveiled the six charges that his office is bringing against the alleged assassin.

The federal charges Boelter will face are for the stalking of Melissa Hortman, stalking of Mark Hortman, murder of Melissa Hortman, murder of Mark Hortman, shooting of the Hortmans, and shooting of the Hoffmans.

Several of these charges have penalties which include life imprisonment without the possibility for parole. Both murder charges have penalties which include the death penalty, but Thompson said it was too early to determine whether the death penalty will be sought. ...

As i read it earlier the officers thought the killer was a cop when they arrived. When the killer shot the wife (i think it was the wife) in the doorway they opened fire. The Killer then fled out the back door.

In federal charges, chilling details have emerged in what followed after the shootings. Boelter allegedly sent text messages to his family and wife. According to the charges, Boelter’s wife and other family received a group text from Boelter at about 6:18 a.m., saying, "Dad went to war last night… I don’t wanna say more because I don’t wanna implicate anybody."

Boelter also allegedly sent a text to his wife, saying, "Words are not gonna explain how sorry I am for this situation. There’s gonna be some people coming to the house armed and trigger-happy and I don’t want you guys around."  ...

Hortman voted with the GOP. Hoffman did not. So the claim Boelter targeted a Democrat solely for voting with the state GOP is debunked

The X account “Right Angle News Network,” which purports to share reliable conservative news, posted that Hortman and Hoffman “both recently voted against their party, with Hortman supporting repeal of free healthcare for illegals and Hoffman joining Republicans in the Senate to pass it.”

That post was wrong.

Although Hortman was the only Democrat who voted with Republicans to pass a budget bill that will remove adult immigrants in the U.S. illegally from the state’s MinnesotaCare health program, Hoffman voted against the bill that would end such coverage.
