The revelation comes as some of Hegseth’s closest advisers have begun sounding the alarm about the secretary’s judgment

We fought like hell to get this guy confirmed and now he's showing to be a flaming bleep.

Info Hegseth shared with wife and brother came from top general's secure messages

Hegseth has denied the information he shared was classified, but it was given to him on a system for sensitive and classified information, sources told NBC News.

WASHINGTON — Minutes before U.S. fighter jets took off to begin strikes against Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen last month, Army Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, who leads U.S. Central Command, used a secure U.S. government system to send detailed information about the operation to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The material Kurilla sent included details about when U.S. fighters would take off and when they would hit their targets — details that could, if they fell into the wrong hands, put the pilots of those fighters in grave danger. But he was doing exactly what he was supposed to: providing Hegseth, his superior, with information he needed to know and using a system specifically designed to safely transmit sensitive and classified information.

But then Hegseth used his personal phone to send some of the same information Kurilla had given him to at least two group text chats on the Signal messaging app, three U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the exchanges told NBC News.

The sequence of events, which has not been previously reported, could raise new questions about Hegseth’s handling of the information, which he and the government have denied was classified. In all, according to the two sources, less than 10 minutes elapsed between Kurilla’s giving Hegseth the information and Hegseth’s sending it to the two group chats, one of which included other Cabinet-level officials and their designees — and, inadvertently, the editor of The Atlantic magazine. The other group included Hegseth’s wife, his brother, his attorney and some of his aides.

Hegseth shared the information on Signal even though, NBC News has reported, an aide warned him in the days beforehand to be careful not to share sensitive information on an unsecure communications system before the Yemen strikes, according to two sources with knowledge of the matter.

Meh...I just can't get torqued off about this, even in the slightest...due to 1) how slipshod the Clintons and Bidens were with the same kind of info, and 2) as SecDef, Hegseth can share this info with anybody he wants on whatever platform he chooses.

The bigger issue I have with him is his staff turmoil and backbiting that's going on...that's not health for the military.

When the Secretary of Defense screws up, servicemembers’ lives are on the line.

Pete Hegseth has shown time and time again he screws up way too much to do this job. He must resign or be fired.

If Hillary didn't get fired or prosecuted for her illegal email server, why should anyone else be held to a different standard?

Hegseth Defiant in Response to Signal Chat Controversy: ‘If People Don’t Like It, They Can Come After Me’

Tuesday on FNC’s “Fox & Friends,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth pushed back against media and Democrat attacks on his leadership role based on allegations of unsecured communications through the Signal app.

The manufactured Pete Hegseth crisis is best understood for what it is: a CIA information warfare operation. If you hear a Republican giving this oxygen, change the channel & make a note to never listen to that person again. They are either ignorant or deceived or too stupid to understand - or worse, they are not playing for the right team.

Your dear leader hired him and hires the best people? Maybe having a drunk and someone from Fox News in charge of our military was a bad idea.
Where'd you get those personal attacks, Bluesky?

Got any proof he was drinking, or not?

And who is in charge of the CIA? The executive branch. Where is the purge, then? Why hasn't DOGE shown up?

Was under the distinct impression that DOGE is directed to concentrate on "Government EFFICIENCY"...to eliminate financial waste and embezzlement.

Seems that this should be Pam Bondi and Kash Patel's responsibilities.

  • Dems-greatest existential threat to USA republic!
When you have a media that is totally corrupt, and a political party that has gone full blown communist, you need to be at your best to confront such enemies of the USA.  And I consider both enemies of the USA.

It is no mystery to me that the Dems want to destroy this nation that most of us believe in.

But I will repeat what I said.  If Hegseth repeated the lack of security by using this software, he needs to go.  PERIOD!!!  It is not the NT folks that put him up to doing it, is it?  Again, if he actually did this, he is a dumb sh*t!!!

With 350 million people, Trump has plenty he could select from to lead the Department of Defense.

Sure enough. Doesn't Alinsky's Rules for Radicals include something about using the system against itself?

BTW, I haven't seen the headlines about Hillary and a host of others getting prosecuted, or losing their jobs before their terms ran out.

I thought the app was supposed to be secure, just that he included people in his list who were not supposed to be on it.

Why not just come up with a new app for handling secure comms, one which only people with the right clearances have access, and flag every message with a clearance required flag that will prevent delivery to those who do not have that rating?

True, but the surest way to halt the operations of any agency is to defund it, which is right in DOGE's wheelhouse.

True, but are you really saying you want the CIA dissolved entirely?   happy77

Hegseth faces latest battle defending his defense secretary post at the Pentagon
While the Secretary of Defense has historically received bipartisan support in the Senate, the upper chamber did not issue broad backing for Hegseth’s nomination.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth may have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan — but now he’s facing another battle: this time on his home turf at the Pentagon.

Controversy has plagued Hegseth since Trump first nominated him to serve as the secretary of defense, from sexual assault and drinking allegations, to two Signal chat debacles, and an op-ed suggesting that Hegseth may be on the way out.

The new Signal controversy, along with the op-ed, are only the latest blows in what the Trump administration claims are sustained effort against Hegseth as defense secretary, dating back to his nomination.

Scrutiny has heightened after a Sunday New York Times report said that Hegseth shared information about a March military airstrike against the Houthis in a Signal messaging app group chat that also included his wife, brother and personal lawyer.

That incident follows a similar episode in March, when the Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg was added to a Signal group chat alongside Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance and others, to discuss the same attack on the Houthis.
