What's the big deal?

Putin is ethnic cleansing Ukraine of Ukrainians same as Dems are ethnic cleansing America of Americans.

The Russians are just 'seeking asylum' in Ukraine.

I'd give Trump credit if he went, of course, they'd have to absolutely guarantee his safety.

You mean Russia has to promise not to kill the POTUS, right?

Zelensky is asking for camera time to emotionally blackmail Americans for more billions.  Choosing to keep a war going that you cannot win and is killing an entire generation of Ukrainian men should be a criminal act, not a cause célèbre.

For Ukraine, that swirling black hole of international corruption masquerading as a nation state, the root motivation for everything and anything is money laundering.

@berdie

First. I don't think that this would be a photo op. But it might make people pounding the "Russia Good" drum wake up. Of course, DJT does not like Z and thinks he can make the Art Of The Deal with Putin. I'm just glad he hasn't permanently withdrawn Ukraine support. After all, when Ukraine surrendered its inherited nukes the US and other countries pledged support if they were attacked. Heck, even Russia signed it.
Go figure. I did hear today DJT say Ukraine started it...again. *****rollingeyes*****

Second. Keeping a war going to maintain independence is not a criminal act. If that were the case then Washington would have been imprisoned. Then we could all say "Pip Pip and Cheerio my good chap. And God Save The King."

Third. I'm not sure what "swirling black hole of corruption"  has to do with the price of rice. No doubt, as many nations are or have been, they may/may not guilty today. There are countries around the world that have partaken of the ability to accommodate nefarious actions. Gee, Burisma comes to mind. Is that too subtle?

Every opportunity with the POTUS is a photo op....and in a war zone is among the most coveted.  The opportunity for drama, emotion and begging are unmatched, and to his credit, Zzman is a master manipulator.

FWIW, there is a case to be made that Ukraine started this war in 2014 and provoked its escalation in 2022, at the insistence of Western Europe.

Lastly, no one is "pounding a Russia Good" mantra.  Maybe the Zzealots could explain to the world what US interest is at risk from this overblown Eastern European border dispute that justifies our attention, draining our treasure, compromising our military readiness and staring down WWIII.

As I said, keeping a war going you cannot win that is killing off a generation of your men and destroying property you cannot afford to rebuild sure *should* be.

I guess you missed the "swirling black hole of INTERNATIONAL corruption" in my post.

Pro tip:  You should educate yourself on Ukraine's history beyond the current headlines from the Ukraine press and local Zzealots.

Thanks for the reply @berdie

Besides,  that is the job of the looney left whackjobs.

Yet you've never missed an opportunity to denounce Ukraine as evil thereby justifying Russia's war of aggression against the Ukrainians.

It is an overt omission and propaganda and bias are measured not just by what people say but by what they don't say.

And I do not recall ever seeing you criticize Russia for their war on Ukraine or any other country.

You're too clever by half @MeganC   You're the one advocating for and exhibiting overt omissions and propaganda bias.  Your mantra "Russia must be destroyed" is classic and vacuous propaganda at its finest.

I'm still waiting for the Zzealots among us to explain why the US must be involved in another flare up of a border dispute in Eastern Europe.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Well, Z has a point. Imagining is no where close to being there, I don't care how good you are at imagining.

And that isn't just a war zone, it's a house on fire, a car wreck, a flood, a wildfire, a hurricane, a tornado, etc..

The effect of being on the ground, the sights, but the smells, the desolation is something that cannot be effectively imagined.

Still, I see it as a needless security risk.

IMHO, yes, Ukraine does have a legitimate beef with Russia, which has been nibbling off bits of the former empire at every opportunity. From the Holodomor on, the Ukrainians have been leery enough of Russian imperialism, enough so that some made the Hobson's choice and sided with the Nazis in the hopes they'd get a better deal than with Stalin. Classic 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' situation.

Still, when they gave up the nukes, their security and sovereignty were allegedly guaranteed. Then Russians infiltrated, built resistance, had elections as only Russians (well and Democrats and tinpot dictators) can and proclaimed the area to be Russian, from Crimea to the Donbas. Then they had their 'border incursion' claiming some of the richest mineral areas of Ukraine and trying to roll up all the Black Sea Ports. Only the Ukrainians resisted.

Could they have resisted this long? Likely not, without US and European help. But they have, given the opportunity, learned to use drones to great effect against their foes and rewritten tactics to some degree, not just in close, but at a distance as well.

War is Hell, and there are men, young and old dying on both sides--not to mention the toll on civilians, something Trump is seeking to stop, but the combatants have to back off, and they aren't cooperating.

The loss of a couple million young men will have a serious long term effect on the demographics of the region, as the Muslims to the south, and those in Europe are outbreeding (for want of a better term) the traditional populations by multiples.

Now is not the time to kill off your young men in a conflict that need not have started, and the Russians are the ones who initiated it.

Regardless of past or present corruption (the feather merchants will be with you always), It needs to stop, and Ukraine needs to endure long enough to get the Russians to the table.
It isn't a question of liking it, it just is, and that sucks for every poor slob who gets wounded and left on the field, every church service that gets bombed, every child that was taken into Russia to be programmed to hate their relatives.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
