Define 'equity'.  Are you seeking equity of opportunity?  Or equity of result?  If it is the former, then expect trade deficits (which are not a bad thing).  But if you are looking for net zero trade balance, then the only way to achieve that is to ban imports altogether.
The equity being sought is to not play craps when the dice are loaded or the roulette wheel is weighted.  If the opponent refuses to stop the unfair advantage, then it is time to stop playing the game.

So you are comfortable with +100% Canadian tariffs on US dairy products,

Some context, please

To support his plan to increase tariffs, President Donald Trump has repeatedly said that the Canadian government charges U.S. farmers a 250% or 270% tariff on dairy products exported to Canada. That’s misleading. There are rates that high on the books, but they would only be charged if U.S. exports exceed predetermined tariff rate quotas, which the dairy exports don’t come close to meeting.

I get it, you think China is the enemy, and it is.  Doesn't mean 'friends' should be stealing our jobs, taking our money, and not paying their fair share of defense.

I actually see Trump pulling a masterstroke by not just focusing on the Chicoms.

By spreading the Tariff blanket world wide, these acts will not be construed as much as an act of war.    If we had just focused on them, we'd probably be seeing a Taiwanese invasion within a year.  Yeah, it could and might still happen, but I think it reduces the probability.

We must keep propping them up as we have done since 1948 when WE allowed Mao to come to power there.

Our own goofy, Communist inspired, Tax system harms us more than anything else.

One of the dumbest things we do is tax money that US companies make overseas.  GM has factories in China selling cars in China.  And all the profits from those sales are parked in foreign banks.  Because the second GM tries to pull that money back into the US to invest, automate, and modernize, the federal government will be standing there demanding their 40%.

Think of all that cash sitting offshore funding our enemies while our government stands guard to punish US corporations who dare to bring that cash back home and invest it in America.

And a lot of that money has returned to the US after the 2017 tax cuts, to the tune of over a trillion $. Still trillions to go....

Thanks To Tax Cuts, Companies' Overseas Profits Now Flooding Back To U.S.
06/26/2018

Tax Cuts: They said it wouldn't happen, but it did: The money companies stashed overseas to protect them from high U.S. corporate tax rates is flooding back in, boosting growth, jobs and confidence in the economy. Thank the Trump tax cuts.

All told, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reported, some $305.6 billion returned to the U.S. from overseas accounts. That's a $1.2 trillion annual rate, and far more than the $35 billion one year before.

The BEA's analysts explain why this happened: "The large magnitudes (of inward capital flows) ... reflect the repatriation of accumulated earnings by foreign affiliates of U.S. multinational enterprises and their parent companies in the United States in response to the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act."

In short, the Trump tax cuts did it.

https://www.factcheck.org/2025/04/trumps-misleading-claim-on-canadian-dairy-tariffs/
Ah yes, let's discuss context, please.
There is indeed a +100% tariff on US dairy products IF the Canadians would allow the USA to export sufficient quantities to Canada.  The catch is that the Canadians will not permit this to happen, as strict ingredient controls are implemented which defer to Canadian products, as well as direct financial incentives available only to Canadians to use Canadian-sourced milk.

BTW, not only the US, but also the EU, Australia, and New Zealand call these Canadian restrictions unfair.  And these are all supposed to be countries 'friendly' to Canada.

What Canada’s 300% Tariff on Dairy Imports Actually Means
Story by Randy Thanthong-Knight
In the growing dispute between the US and Canada over trade, US President Donald Trump has singled out for particular complaint steep levies Canada has on the books for imported dairy products. In theory, US milk, butter and cheese could face duties ranging from 200% to 300%. In practice, close to 99.9% of US dairy exports to Canada enter the country duty-free, according to the Canadian government. Still, Trump has demanded an end to the high tariffs. “It’s not fair to our farmers. It’s not fair to our country,” he said April 2.

How does Canada tax dairy imports?
Foreign dairy producers can sell to the Canadian market — facing little or no tariffs — up to a certain threshold, after which cost-prohibitive levies kick in. Canada’s government justifies the setup as part of its so-called supply management system. Begun in the 1970s, the system is designed to prevent surpluses or shortages of dairy supplies and to ensure that prices are high enough to make farms profitable. Under the system, local farmers face a production quota and if they go over the limit can be required to pour milk down the drain.

Last year, Canada was the second largest market for US dairy exports, after Mexico. The high tariffs only apply when American products exceed the amounts set for each category under the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement, which was negotiated during Trump’s first term, and those ceilings are rarely hit. The agreement, called USMCA, resulted in a large expansion, over time, of the tariff-free amounts that can be sent from the US into Canada.

However, according to the International Dairy Foods Association, which represents the US dairy manufacturing and marketing industry, US farmers don’t exceed the limits because of various other protectionist measures Canada has in place. Those include providing monetary incentives to encourage Canadian processors to use domestic dairy inputs and setting compositional standards for cheese to limit ingredient imports, the group said.

Let’s take a step back.  We completely nuked relations with an anglophone and historically friendly neighbor, threatening to wreck their economy and annex their territory, over an economic sector which represents 3% of our GDP.  Even though our neighbor imports five times as much dairy as we get from them, we went postal because they don’t buy slightly more from us, maybe.

It’s going to be a long four years if Republicans don’t start to voice disagreement with this administration, and an even longer 8 years of whatever communist wins by default.

External forces will not wreck this country nearly as efficiently or expediently as internal ones.

The important ones are being explored through DOGE and are immensely supported by Americans of all stripes.

The external forces are secondary, are likely to have short-term hiccups in prices, but over the longer term are productive.

What does China import from the U.S. anyways?
Stolen tech, newly invented viruses, factories, oil from the SPR (under Biden), guidance systems (LORAL/Hughes aerospace during the Clinton era)...

China Vows to ‘Fight to the End’ as Trump Threatens 50% Tariffs

China vowed to “fight to the end” after President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 50 percent duty on imports if Beijing does not withdraw the retaliatory 34 percent tariff it imposed on American products last week.

The key word here is 'threatens'.

Trump is negotiating and no increase in tariffs are likely to occur.
