Kohl's is closing 27 stores this weekend... see the full list of closures in 15 states

Kohl's will shut 27 'underperforming' US stores this weekend, but not before slashing final sale prices.

The department store chain will wind down operations at the locations in 15 states on Saturday.

Initially the store's were expected to close by the end of April but the deep discounts have stripped stock down leading the locations to close sooner.

California houses the most Kohl's stores set for closure with 10 shops on the chopping block. Scroll down to see the full list of closing locations.

A distribution center in San Bernardino, California, is also expected to close when the building's lease ends in May.

The company said it was able to shutter the product storage hub because of 'increased efficiencies with new technology capabilities.'

'We always take these decisions very seriously,' former CEO Tom Kingsbury said when announcing the closures in January.

'As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams.'

Never shopped in a Kohl's.  But most brick and mortar stores are going the route of the dinosaurs, extinct.

Almost everything I buy is online.  I used to buy most of my clothes in Macy's, and it has been years since I bought anything in Macy's.  Of course, I haven't worn a suit daily in 13 years.  So, my life has changed a bit.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
This won't affect me, because we never had a Kohl's here.

But I will say this. Online shopping has its limits. I may be a dinosaur, but I want to actually look at and touch (inspect) a product before I buy it. Some things initially look good, but on closer inspection, materials (in clothing) either feel good or not. Quality of workmanship similarly can make or break a sale for me. The pictures online just don't quite cut it.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Not surprised, Kohl's had nothing but overpriced crap.

I have to try on most things before buying. The closure of department and clothing stores is really a pain!

Kohl’s is another version of the big-box store, not a true department store.  Tries to be more upscale but still not the same as (God forbid) Macy’s or even J.C. Penney.

I have never been a big fan but I have been there.  My husband likes it for his stuff.  But he doesn’t like it since their “savings” are only good for the month.  It’s annoying.  As he says how many times in a month do we have to go?

Never mind their roll-over for the BLM riots in the endless summer.  Items to buy in the stores and blatant commercials on TV.

But, since our area is Uber-communist, I’m sure our store won’t close.

I used to be able to get a certain type of pants there that I couldn't find at Macy's or JCP, but Kohl's didn't seem to have them the last time I stopped by.  Oh well. **nononono*

Oh, it’s absolutely imperative to try out clothes.  Shoes are an absolute must.  And far too many other products are best to see in person (we’ve been doing that with full-size rugs lately).  Plus, I absolutely hate the returns.  Repackage and go to a mail shop?  What fun.  Happens a lot with things better to see for real, never mind things that don’t work.

16 of the 27 of them in deep blue areas.  Sounds like a good adjustment to me.  Especially those 10 in California

I don't shop there, but their overall business model is sound, and should be one of the last 5 brick and mortor to survive.

Kohls has been going down hill since before the Rona outbreak

I went there during the 'rona insanity. Found a pair of pants I really liked, but all the dressing rooms were off-limits, thus I couldn't see how well they fit. I inquired, and they said I had to buy the pants, take them home, try them on, and then decide whether I wanted them - if not, just bring them back. It's a 35 minute drive each way from our house to that store, so I declined to do the extra driving when all I needed to do was a couple of minutes to try on the #*%! pants. Once again - oh well.
