Kremlin dials down Trump hopes of Ukraine ceasefire by Easter

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin appeared at odds on Sunday night over peace talks as delegations prepared to discuss a possible ceasefire in Ukraine.

The United States was optimistic that Monday’s summit in Saudi Arabia could pave the way to a “full-on” ceasefire and bring an end to the three-year war, Mr Trump’s envoy to Moscow said on Sunday.

However, the Kremlin played down expectations, suggesting the meeting was “just beginning” and that “difficult negotiations” lay ahead.

“We are only at the beginning of this path,” Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Kremlin, warned, less than a week after Russia rejected Mr Trump’s last offer of a 30-day ceasefire.

The White House is said to be aiming for a truce by Easter Sunday in the latest sign the timetable is shifting after Mr Trump promised to end the war on day one of his presidency.

BTW - Did Zelenskyy ever sign over some rare earth mineral rights to the U.S.???  If so .... Russia is nearby in those areas and he needs to keep his distance.  I don't see Trump putting up with any of his 'missteps'.

I heard Trump speak today and I believe he said the mineral deal hasn't been signed. And why should it be at this point? I think the administration jumped the gun assuming Ukraine would fold.

He shouldn't put up with Putin's missteps either. But in reality, no matter what he thinks, this situation isn't really within his total control.

Don't get me wrong. I would love to see this war end.

Don't get me wrong. I would love to see this war end.

I would love to see this war end as well; but as history has it, Ukraine and Russia have been fighting for many decades.  So .... until one completely obliterates the other, I don't see a lasting ceasefire.  NATO is on the side of Ukraine ... so naturally Putin will continue on with his agenda and Ukraine with theirs.  Yes, this latest incursion was instigated by Putin.  So ... how to get both countries to reconcile???

Maybe one of Putin's objections was the US having rare earth mineral rights from Ukraine?  After all Russia has taken over areas of Ukraine where there are rare earth minerals.
